headlines for softening his stance on contraception in response to the zika virus and his criticism of donald trump drew even more attention. with donald trump's calls to build a wall to keep mexican immigrants out of the u.s.. he told reporters that a person who thinks only about building walls and not bridges is not christian. that drew a fiery response from trump who initially called the comments disgraceful >> it was an exchange on the minds of many when heading to mass especially those on the side of the pope.

as in no way launching an attack on donald trump but was reiterating the message in general of building walls. the pope also made the news for comments about contraception to prevent birth defects caused by the zika virus. pope francis said that avoiding pregnancy is not an absolute evil seeming to soften his stance that it would be ok in those countries affected by the health crisis. it is a change that many say makes sense. >> if it's opened thing that needs to be done to protect a

a nice day-to-day temperature wise. well above average. we topped out at 71 today. look at some of these numbers. quite a few 70's out there. 68 in roxboro, 69 in chapel hill am a 71 in raleigh and fayetteville topped out at 70 degrees. the active weather day looks to be tuesday and wednesday. surface high-pressure to the north will keep us cool with moisture coming in. a bit of a break and then we will see a really oppressive storm moving up the appalachian trail. not only showers but late in the day a thunderstorm or two. the potential is there as we go

the rain showers are pretty much moving on out. in the meantime, a live look now. you can see that the tarmac is a little bit wet out there. heavier showers by the triad early this afternoon. temperatures in the low 60's and still very mild out there. it will be in the 50's with a light jacket. it might be a little damp thanks to the recent rain, but it should be dry. a couple spotty showers in the mountains could still swing through. watch an area of low pressure develop near texas and that will be coming our way to bring rain showers to the region as we go monday into tuesday. notice the flow from the northeast which will take us from the low 70's back to the

rain coming in as we go overnight. that rain continues spreading in pockets of modern showers. on tuesday with that high to the north it will pump in that chilly air and even a spotty shower possible. we quickly should scour out the cooler air and maybe a thunderstorm when the front starts to move by wednesday evening. i would not be surprised if some areas south and east will pop out in the low to mid 70's on that day. that next weekend we quiet down in a big way. the cooler weather comes in right behind it so by friday highs will be back down to the 40's with a lot of temperature swings coming our way.
