marco rubio did well finishing in a virtual tie for second place. boasting of his accomplishment and praising his friend jeb bush. >> he has many things to be proud of. he's an extraordinary husband, he's an extraordinary father. he was the greatest governor in the history of florida. >> reporter: back abush's watch party supporters were taken by surprise with the announcement settling for their next favorite candidate. >> i don't know where we go from here. >> did you think it would come to this in. >> i was hoping it wouldn't come to this. >> reporter: bush's super pac right to rise, blew through some $85 million in the past nine months. much of that money spent on tv ads and some of those ads targeting marco rubio. jeb bush did not say which candidate in the republican field he is supporting.
heading to nevada now. bernie sanders is still confident about his close finish. he told the crowd his campaign has come a long way if five weeks noting he was significantly behind hillary clinton leading up to the nevada caucuses. >> i believe that o super tuesday we have got an excellent chance to win many of those states. >> next up, a geographical flip-flop. republicans will caucus in nevada on tuesday and the democratic preimary will be held in south carolina. voters here in florida will he to the polls march 15th. you can find extensive coverage on the campaign trial on the nbc 6 news and weather app.
deadly shooting of a child that's taken a south florida community. >> helps stop this. we need stop this. how many more young men and women have to die. >> miami dade mayor making a passionate plea to the public to bring the little boy's killer to justice. the child was gunned down in broad daylight. >> reporter: that child was shot more than eight hours ago. tonight you can still see dectives out here working the scene. light shines on the area of the apartment complex where police say it happened. e reward for information leading to arrests in this case, $25,000. king carter will never see his seventh birthday. >> it was so hard when they pronounced the baby dead. that was real good child. he didn't have no rson to be dead. >> reporter: his grandmother and
devastated over the loss. police say the child was caught in the cross fire, an innocent victim killed by a drive by shooting. >> when you let your kid out to play, you do not expect that someone will come shooting up your neighborhood and your child will be hit. it's a nightmare. >> reporter: the miami dade police director angry over what happened. it's something law enforcement is seeing again and again in this county. detectives believe three young men are responsible and they got away in a black four door vehicle, possibly a sedan. hours after the incident, police put a $5,000 reward in place for information leading up to the arrest. not even an hour later the mayor added 20,000 to the reward. >> we have to up the reward cause we need the community's help. the key to stopping this is the community's help. a lot of people know where the drug houses are. those are the targets. >> reporter: community leaders say gun violence is erybody's problem.
at this apartment complex when he was hit. it's a block way from this elementary school. the school district superintntdent has been vocal about the innocent children falling victim to violent criminals. >> this time this tragedy hit close to home this child's aunt happens to be a former teacher of the year and i know well. >> reporter: earlier after the family learned the boy was pronounced dead the aunt was angry. >> enough is enough. >> reporter: no amount of anger or pain can change the fact this little boy is gone forever. >> if they can't go outside and play, what can the kids do? that's bad. i just want them to stop. >> reporter: we've learned this isn't the first time the family has lost a loved one to gun violence. they lost a relative just last

a 6-year-old girl left to die in a fire takes her first steps toward recovery. she walked out of@the hospital today. her mother remains locked up for leaving the child. bobby brooks spoke to the woman's family about this deal. >> reporter: playing with her doll. that's what a 6-year-old should be doing but this little girl has had quite the last few days. today she finally leaves the hospital with her grandma. we're told in good spirits. >> she's perfectly fine. she's going to be able to just -- she misses her mom. she asks for her a lot. >> reporter: her mom is in jail and her bond hearing, wee found out that she won't be seeing her daughter for quite a whie. >> you're to have fo contact with the minor in this case as well as have any contntt with your mother who is the temporary guardian.
she's in tears in jail today. her daughter left the hospital is the little girl wads almost killed this past thursday. a fire broke out at the apartment. according to the police report, witnesses watched her run out, leaving her 6-year-old daughter trapped inside. according to her mom, it wasn't that simple. she says her daughter started cooking and things rapidly got@ out of control. >> both of them, my daughter does not hear my granddaughter's voice. she just went crazy. she took off thinking my grand daughter was dead. >> reporter: she also says her daughter has been suffering from a mental illness that contributed to her decision making. >> since my granddaughter was born, she was diagnosed with post partum depression. >> reporter: despite what witnesses say, she defends her daughter. >> my daughter adores her daughter.
