somalia because of a big hole. officials with somalia's civil aviation authority say they found no evidence so far this was caused by a criminal act. you can see just how large the hole is in these pictures. cnn reports authorties said one person was blown or ejected from the plane. somalia's national news agency reported one passenger died and another was hurt. investigators say an explosion and fire blew a gaping hole in the side of the commercial plane. the plane was heading from mogadishu to djibouti on the horn of africa. hundreds of workers will walk through the gates at newport news shipbuilding for the last time today. thirty-minutes ago, we first told you more than 700 workers are losing their jobs at the company because of a decrease in workload at the shipyard! here's the thing, the cuts aren't over just yet. rico bush is outside the shipyard to explain what's ahead for several hundred more employees not on the chopping block this time around. rico -

say, but a third round of cuts are coming! the company says it will hand out pink- slips to even more employees this year. however, the shipyard mentioned it is too early to know how many people will be impacted and when they will make the cuts. this is in addition to than 7-hundred 30 hourly and eight salaried workers laid-off today. since the company made the official announcement to reduce its workforce last year, it says it planned to get rid of 15-hundred workers by the end of 20-16. it's making good on its promise to eliminate some jobs. all the workers who are not coming back to work after today knew about the reductions. the company kept employees on the payroll for 60 days, but the

between the ages of 18 and 26 living in the u-s are required to register with the selective service. developing this morning, search and rescue teams are working to recover the wreckage from two military helicopters. the u-s marines say they've recovered some of the 12 victims' remains off the coast of hawaii. about 80 military members and a specialized salvage ship are on site to help. we told you last month the military helicopters collided into each other overnight. witnessess described seeing a fireball in the sky when the crash happend. no one on board survived. prosecutors say someone stabbed nicole lovell to death the day she vanished. family reported the 13-year-old blacksburg girl missing, wednesday. investigators charged two virginia tech students in her death: 18-year-old david eisenhauer and 19-year-old natalie keepers. eisenhauer faces murder and abduction keepers has a bond hearing scheduled today. she faces helping

in a bomb threat to northampton county schools. school officials dismissed all schools in the division before noon yesterday while they searched the buildings. the sheriff tells us, deputies searched the buildings, and called in bomb- sniffing dogs to double check. they didn't find anything to support the threat. that wasn't the only bomb threat on the eastern shore. investigators looked into another threat at chinocteague elementary school in accomack county. yesterday was a teacher work day-- so no students were in school. first responders say they didn't find anything. we're following new developments about the spread of the zika virus. the centers for disease control and prevention says, it can be shared through sex. in texas, health officials confirmed one patient caught zika, after having sexual contact with a traveler. the virus has been spreading through mosquito bites, with reports coming from latin american countries. investigators have been looking into reports it causes birth defects. the city of norfolk says the owners of a burned-down hotel are

demolishing the building. only chopper 10 was above the m-star hotel on shore drive in august last year. a city spokeswoman said they met with the owner's attorney monday who informed the city, the insurance company will not pay for a full demolition. the owners have appealed. we'll keep you updated on the progress. will virginia beach move city hall to the town center area? right now, its just a plan. the current city hall is way out on princess anne road. the director of public works says, the building is 50 years old and needs to be updated. the next step would be for the city to approve money in next year's budget for a feasibility study. good morning, hampton roads. let's check

good morning and thanks for joining us on wavy news ten at 7 am on fox 43. i'm katie collett. happening today, it's the last day of work for hundreds at the newport news shipyard. more than 700 workers are losing their jobs! management announced the layoffs several months ago. rico bush is live outside the shipyard with the reasons why. rico. don, katie, since the layoffs began at newport news shipyard last september, the president of the company has maintained the reductions are based on a lack of workload, after all other options have been exhausted. president of newport news shipbuilding matt mulherin made the official announcement to

early december. the company sent pink slips to 7- hundred 30 hourly workers and eight salaried employees, but the shipyard let them work for 60 more days. this morning will be the last time hundreds of workers will walk through the gates at company has tried to give impacted workers a little hope in moving in forward, because they say, employees can come back next year when the workload increases. still, as you may imagine, hearing this, may do very little to ease the pain for some workers who will out of work after today and looking for a paycheck until next year. even with all of cutbacks, a grim future still lies ahead for several hundred more employees at newport news shipyard. i'll explain why and what's ahead for them in 30 minutes. live in newport news, rico bush, 10 on your side. new this morning big freight railroads say they'll miss a safety deadline. three companies including

off indian river road. the two people living inside got out safely, but as you can see, the home is severely damaged. they had to spend the night somewhere else. no one was hurt. this morning, investigators are still working to find out how the fire started. happening today, dozens of civil service mariners will be back home after 5 months at sea. the usns leroy grumman is scheduled to return to naval station norfolk. the ship is a fleet oiler that helps refuel navy ships while they're at sea. while they were away, the crew replenished more than 6-point-8 million gallons of fuel. they'll pull up to the pier later this morning. water worries. hundreds of concerned neighbors came to this meeting last night to hear the city's plan to test well water for possible contaminants. find out what's expected to happen today. funny money. police say someone's been passing fake bills around hampton roads. we'll show you

water testing around fentress air field in chesapeake starts today. the city will check the well water after recent testing found high levels of chemicals called p-f-cs. the navy has been giving bottled water to people working there. military officials told us, that was just a precaution. they say the water is safe based on federal and

how to get the water to flint. they hope someone with a big heart and a big truck helps them get the donations out by february 22nd. if you would like to donate a truck or water to the effort -- look for this story on wavy dot com. a grieving father is making sure his daughter's death brings positive change to dare county. he wants every child to wear a helmet when they ride a bicycle. back in november, we told you about the death of 12-year-old bri blumenthal. she was riding her bike when an suv hit her. bri died in the hospital, but while she was there, donations for her medical expenses poured in. her dad got so many, he decided to start a foundation in her name. school officials say thanks to the donations, they can loan out or give away helmets to children if they forget theirs. doing it to honor bri, if not, it's just, everyone's got one on now

they have seen the bogus bills popping up all over the city. they say in november this man spent seven, $100 hundred dollar bills in the walmart on cunningham drive. detectives say they have also come across cases where people are selling shoes and game systems on craigslist and the buyer pays them in fake money. investigators say technology is helping the counterfeiters making the fake money since they can find stores. water testing around fentress air field in chesapeake starts today. the city will check well water after recent testing found high levels of chemicals called p-f-cs.
