team weather coverage takes us to virginia beach. 10 on your side's liz palka is in the resort city tonight. liz, you've been in touch with officials across the region -- who say they're ready for anything. nicole and tom - pre-treating the interstates and those areas well known to freeze first. that's what many hampton roads cities and vdot spent today doing. those efforts will continue overnight. virginia beach public works trucks, plows and spreaders are lined up. crews have their winter weather assignments...and they're ready to go. as many as 30 operators could be called in if needed...but public works spokesman drew lankford says that's not the plan.

last night. there's a growing memorial for a deputy in colorado -- killed trying to detain a suspect. closer to home -- the harford county sheriff's office in maryland identified two deputies killed in the line of duty wednesday. a 10 on your side follow up tonight -- local and state leaders came together in hampton-- with hopes of combating crime. about one-thousand people took advantage of a resource fair focused on young black men. this event capped off a 12-hour day at the hampton roads convention center. organizers say they want to get boys and teens into after school programs, keeping them off the streets and out of the courtroom. mistake on one vote for the rest of his life. sessoms expects to make a decision about running for re-election next week. a hampton teen faces charges-- after police say she assaulted a school bus driver today. the division says it happened on the way to syms middle school this morning. police say the 8th-grader assaulted the 59-year-old they charged the 14-year-old and released her. in a statement, hampton schools says the unacceptable. investigators expect the recover. police say they're trying to figure out how a woman died in newport news. they say someone found her dead this evening -- close to gildersleeve middle school on minton drive. they were not ready to tell us who she is or how she died. they did not say whether it was suspicious. decision 2016 turns to south carolina. hillary clinton and bernie sanders face off in the last debate before that state's primary. the vermont senator finished more than 20 points ahead of clinton this week in new hampshire the

a young boy and three elizabeth city police officers are all back home-- after a cold, early morning rescue. police say the 11-year-old was stuck up to his waist in mud -- under the knobbs creek bridge. that's near north road street. they say the officers made their way down the side of the bridge, and pulled him to safety. everyone went to the hospital for exposure to the cold -- but police say they were released. they did not say how the child ended up in the mud. tonight we're hearing from three local shipyard

the family of a perquimans county woman is trying to track down the previous owners of a dog. two weeks ago, suzanne story adopted the pitbull from a virginia beach family. she had heard it was harmless, but the animal attacked and killed her when she went to clean out the cage, wednesday. story's mother hopes someone can explain -- was an ad in the virginian pilot for a dog that said easy going good with kids." 13:36:42 (butt) debbie brown / mother of suzanne story c0007 13:39:24 "we wanna find the people that gave her the dog and told them it was good natured a vet put the dog down this morning. we tried calling the number listed in the advertisement - but no response. a group of deputies reached out to help a family in need.

10. we're on the air from seven to nine right here on fox 43. we're not the only ones fighting the freeze -- check out what happened after a water main broke in scranton, pennsylvania. it left icicles hanging from someone's tree and home -- residents say the pipe gave way in the middle of the night, and it took hours to fix. strong winter storms made it tough to drive in new york today --- the snow created white out conditions in the empire state. traffic crawled along a highway west of syracuse. police say it caused several accidents -- the feds continue to search for answers surrounding a sunken cargo ship. they're launching a second search through the wreckage of el faro. it ran into hurricane joaquin last fall, and sank near the bahamas. the n-t-s-b says the two week expedition will start in april. they hope to find the "black box" for a better idea of what went wrong. the ship went down with 33 people on board -- including a virginia beach man. they did not go easily but after 41 days -- it's
