this morning we're on your side tracking winter weather. our team coverage will get you ready for the coming snow. rico bush is live following up on how public works crews are preparing. jen lewis is watching the roads for trouble spots this morning, and she'll be back this evening for what could be a very messy commute. and meteorologist jeremy wheeler is tracking the latest snow totals and the timeline for when the snow will start and stop. good morning and thanks for joining us on wavy news ten at 7am on fox 43. i'm don roberts. several schools are dismissing students early or closing all together because of the snow. that list is scrolling at the bottom of your screen an on wavy-dot. now meteorologist jeremy wheeler has more on today's snowfall. the low 30s. winds var. 5-10mph. tonight: snow showers end this evening. then clearing and cold. lows will be in the low 20s with a few teens inland. winds nw 10-20mph. saturday: partly cloudy, cold, and windy. highs will be in the low 30s. winds nw 15-25mph with gusts up to 35mph. wind chills will be in the single digits to the teens. a quick moving upper level disturbance will move into the region today. it will create a weak surface area of low pressure to our south/southeast. these 2 features will combine to produce snow showers later today. temperatures will be cold enough for this to all fall as snow except for a few locations along the southern outer banks and northeast north carolina. the heaviest snow will fall over northeast north carolina up to the southside. 2-4" is possible over northeast north carolina with 1-3" over the southside. we'll see a possible 1-2" on the peninsula and lower eastern shore. a dusting up to an inch for the middle peninsula and accomack county. this could cause big problems during the evening commute. this will all clear out by tonight. then a very cold/dry

our team coverage continues with rico bush in virginia beach. he's monitoring how road crews are preparing for the snow. rico, you've been in touch with officials. what are they saying? don, at this hour, there are eight trucks out on the roads in virginia beach in each snow zone working to pre- treat the roads. as many as 30 operators could be called in to help treat the roads if needed. virginia beach public works crews have their have plows and trucks lined up at its operations center ready pre-mixed salt and sand to use as well.

started treating bridges and overpasses around 2-30 this morning. spokesman drew lankford says all of those roads should be treated before the morning rush hour. drew lankford - virginia beach public works c17 21:56:18 - "we've had cold temperatures here for a couple of days now. if there's any kind of precipitation ....you're going to have some slick spots, particularly areas say rudee inlet bridge, lesner bridge where you're getting moisture blowing in any way." a spokeswoman for v-dot says its crews started pre-treating the southside and peninsula interstates around 9-30 yesterday morning. v-dot's salt, abrasives, and brine are loaded up and crews are still monitoring the road conditions. we should mention that other cities are preparing for the snow too. we're told several of them have already

we're following breaking news right now in new jersey. look at this warehouse fire burning in hillsborough. that's about 50 miles north of philadelphia. thankfully no injuries have been reported. witnessess say they've heard explosions that shook the ground. just to give you a glimpse of how big this fire is, meteorologists can see the smoke rising in the air on radar. a fire overnight in hampton left displaced seven people and left several homes without power. dispatchers tell us the fire broke out on terri sue court, near magruder boulevard just after midnight. firefighters took these

police near san diego are investigating two cases of stolen cars with babies in the back seat, and it all happened in less than 24 hours. the first incident was wednesday evening while a mother checked into a hotel. someone stole her car with her 18- month-old baby in the back seat. officers later recovered the child unharmed after the thief called police and confessed. the second case happened yesterday when a mother ran into her apartment quickly and left her five-month old in the back. officers found the car abandoned d hour later with the baby unharmed and still in her car seat. this morning, norfolk police have extra patrols in the larchmont neighborhood after someone reported a suspicious car. police say on monday, the driver of an early 2000s nissan altima asked two children questions they thought were in appropriate. officers first heard about this from a post on "nextdoor" - which is like a neighborhood website. if you have any information that could help police call the crime line.

gave the state of the city address, and 10 on your side was there. mayor will sessoms says leaders need to focus on three things to make the city better. mobility, livability and connectivity. sessoms says he's worried young people will leave if the city doesn't improve public transportation. that includes extending the tide from norfolk. sessoms discussed the importance broadband and fiber networks, so people can access the things they need online. he says the new arena deal will also bring in a new era of jobs, revenue and cultural experiences. good morning, hampton roads. let's check

by the attack, described what happend inside. karen bass / witness "i just started down the row hitting everybody, people were bleeding." investigators say the suspect hurt four people before leading officers on a short chase. those victims are expected to be okay. police say they tried to use a stun gun on the suspect, but shot and killed him as he lunged at them with the machete in one hand and a knife in the other. this morning it's unclear what led up to the attack. we are never more than 10 minutes away from another winter weather update. it looks like a beautiful day right now, but in just a few hours the first snowflakes will start to fall. meteorologist jeremy wheeler has everything you need to know. plus, out of the hospital. 10 on your side follows-up with how a local college athlete

new this morning we can show you the four hold-outs of an armed stand off in oregon. after 41 days of occupying a federal wildlife refudge, the last four proesters surrendered peacefully yesterday. they are expected to be arraigned on federal charges today in portland. we told you the f-b-i closed in on the group yesterday. thousands heard the tense moments of the negotiation that was streamed online. in all 16 people linked to the occupation, face felony charges. a teen in hampton faces charges after police say she assaulted a school bus driver. officers say it happened yesterday morning on the way to syms middle school. police say the 8th-grader assaulted the 59-year-old driver near grimes road. they charged the 14-year-old and released her. in a statement,
