still to come, we will continue our 2016 coverage with more presidential hopefuls in the upstate today. but first, we turn to the weather. much needed warmer temperatures have arrived. after a winter storm that left thousands without power. and dangerous conditions on the road. meteorologist dale gilbert is in the weather center with the very latest. it only got to 30 degrees yesterday. the rain that formed and sell as i can't all sorts of problems across the region. yesterday got up to 30 degrees. it has already up to 50 degrees today. the system that we had this morning that brought us rain and storms overnight, another systems going to approach north carolina mountains this evening. that the couple inches of snow in the higher elevations in after that, it looks like clear

a full report in a few minutes. geoff: thank you. the ice brought down trees and power lines. right now, thousands of people are without power. according to duke energy, more than 24,000 people are without power in the carolinas. you can see the number here in western north carolina. that number has dropped from 1700 in the last hour. in swain county, less than 200 here in the upstate, less than 700 total. most are in greenwood county. troopers are investigating two deadly wrecks impacted by conditions. a man, standing on the side of interstate 385, was forced over a concrete retaining wall and down an embankment. 28-year-old clayborn dallas jester was standing at the site of a previous crash when he was forced over the wall. three others where hospitalized in the collision including a

was on site for the first crash. the other deadly wreck involved a head on collision with a tow truck on verde boulevard. the coroner says 17-year-old lauryn tyona agnew hit a patch of ice and crossed over the night. agnew and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to the hospital where agnew later died. before the sun rose buncombe and , henderson county still had ice on sidewalks and bridges. some streets were also still slick-causing accidents like this one. the buncombe county emergency services director says the majority of the accidents did not cause injuries, and the situation could have been much worse. drivers say the roads were rough when they were traveling last night and early this morning. >> i definitely try to avoid the not to like drive too fast cause then you can end up on the sides of the road like the others. >> last night it wasn't too bad but with the rain coming in, it made it a lot easier to get

was a little scary . geoff: the good news is the forecast looks good for at least the rest of the week. police responded to dozens of crashes yesterday, as some other areas in north carolina turned out to be dangerous for drivers . this was the sight on one road in winston-salem, you can see it was lined with cars that slid off the road. most had little damage just some scratches. people returned this morning to get their cars unstuck and help others out. this is also the sight in forsyth county north carolina. these cars were along the side of the road for a different reason. the drivers were finding it hard to navigate the hilly street so some drivers got out fed up and left their cars. in asheville, crews are still cleaning up a water main break near mcdowell street and choctaw street. according to crews on the scene, the waterline first, burst-rupturing the sewer line, it is unclear if it was weather related. crews say, it might have been from the ground getting cold and

fixed by late tonight. and in south carolina, two police officers involved in the fatal shooting of a drug suspect will not be charged. now we would like to warn you that some may find this video graphic. the officers from the cayce police department were attempting to arrest a man on drug related charges. as you can see from this edited dash cam video during a struggle with the officers, the man could be seen reaching behind his back to pull out a gun. investigators say he shot one of the officers, that's when the other officer ran after him returning fire, and killing him. new at noon a second teenager has been accused of vandalizing several upstate churches. officials say robert grigsby junior and mark epperly were both arrested and charged this week. the two 18-year-olds faces

malicious injury to a place of worship. investigators say grigsby and epperly damaged several church windows, walls and vehicles in simpsonville in december. deputies said the damage appeared to be caused by an air gun. south carolina lawmakers are considering bills that could increase the state's minimum wage. one bill would set the state's minimum wage at $10.10 an hour. right now south carolina is among 21 states where employers can pay $7.25 an hour, the federal minimum. the other bill would repeal the state's right-to-work status. today at daytona, it is media day. we are here from the superspeedway. >> the world center of raising is daytona international speedway. they prepare for sunday's daytona 500. today we talked to every single sprint cup driver. that includes the champion. >> it is last year. it is in the past.

he stopped within our studios to sit down with patrick hussion. we will have his talk on our mobile app. at least three candidates in the upstate today are lobbying for your vote this weekend. senator ted cruz is set to be in anderson tonight at the civic center. that's at 7:30. doctor ben carson's scheduled to have a town hall at 1:30 this afternoon in gaffney. he spoke at the spartanburg marriott last night preceded by multiple music performances and speakers. his wife candy also joined him. and mrs. carson will remain in the upstate today. she will be visiting riverside middle school to talk about voting and citizenship with students. governor john kasich also scheduled to be in greenville county this afternoon. he has a meet and greet at 3:30 at the boiling springs fire department district station 4. again, that is in greenville county. republican presidential candidate jeb bush got a little help on the campaign trail. from someone quite familiar with the white house.

brother, former president george george w. bush. the two campaigned together in south carolina trying to boost jeb's position in the polls just a few days ahead of republican the primary. >> he will rise above the petty name calling and once elected, he will not need a poll or focus group to tell him how to think or what to do. geoff: they were also joined by senator lindsey graham. who endorsed bush after dropping out of the race. both george w bush and george h.w. bush won primary contests in south carolina during their campaigns. on the democratic side back here in the upstate bill clinton is , campaigning for hillary clinton in greenville today. meanwhile upstate elected democrats want to remind voters about the democratic primary next saturday february 27. absentee voting has already started for both primaries. if you have to work, if you will be out of town or if you have , any other issues, you can vote now at your county election office.

only part of the building is open because there's still damage from that november shooting. robert dear is accused of the attack. he's charged with murder and attempted murder. a miami garbage truck driver is in serious condition this morning after his truck fell 100 feet off an overpass. witnesses say the truck broke through the guard rail and fell onto the roof of a house before crashing to the ground. no word yet on what caused the truck to fall. the driver remains in the icu. a thief behind a california home invasion, leaves behind a surprising clue, his cell phone. the victim says when he made it home from work he came face-to-face with the barrel of the suspect's gun. the victim says he then ran into his bedroom, locked the door and called 911. when it was safe to come out he went to the kitchen, and was shocked by what he saw. the thief's phone charging on the counter. police say the suspect also left behind wet clothes and a sprite bottle. officers say the phone full of

down. turning to the numbers on wall points. and s&p 500. a new app is being called uber for kids. that app is called zemcar. the owner wants parents to know the service is convenient and safe. parents can set up rides on demand or schedule trips in advance. the drivers, who are usually nannys, mom's and teachers, undergo background checks and can earn up to $35 an hour. there's also a video monitoring system for parents to look at once the child gets in a vehicle. zemcar is available for android phones and is gearing up to get into the apple store. the words millennials and drinking may bring to mind craft beer or keg parties. but don't forget about wine.

asheville 46 degrees in greenville at 53, numeral are also the mid 50's. we will see warmer temperatures than these as we get toward the weekend. we had a couple of days of colder than normal weather. the reward is this weekend, warmer than normal. we have that's a look forward to come at should be mostly sunny both days. that breeze out of the north makes the temperatures in the mountains feel a little bit colder. if you're just new to the area, average this time of the year will be 35 for a low, 56 for a high, much like you're getting today. where it -- we are expecting 57 for the afternoon. i would be 30 for the low, and 51 for the high. upper 40's on cap today. there goes the system that left all the ice and dangerous conditions yesterday.

tomorrow morning. after that it looks like clear sailing as we had to the rest of the week. the northern portion of the country feeling the weather rebounding nicely. we will have more pretty days to look forward to. degrees. potential range of highs. we will see temperatures into the mid 40's to 47. we will see flurries in the mountains tomorrow. that will come to an end. the upstate may see a little rain overnight, but not much expected. 57 expected high again, with upper 40's in the mountains. thursdays, sunny skies, and that friday it gets warmer. a high of 60, and then mid 60's saturday and sunday. mountains will be in the low 60's. it looks like a great weekend. geoff: i like that a cat in one. norway is making a name for

geoff: he certainly spoke what was on her mind. what else did we hear last night? >> kendra l'amour's performance is something that ll cool j told us was going to happen. he said this is going to be a performance that everybody's going to be talking about. it was a powerful performance. he consult with his chains, and numbers behind bars, and brought it is whole conversation of what has been going on in the world. it gave something for everybody to talk about it. it gets people discussing the controversy that is going on in the world right now. i give him major props for doing it in his performance. geoff: your reaction, being a clemson play but they lost in the title game, that was a heartbreaker.
