it's very warm for the state hurried we will talk about heavier rain and cooler weather. geoff: covering our commitment 2016 this morning, the gop primary is over. still standing, donald trump. allyson: but yesterday's primary ended with jeb bush bowing out of the race. here's another look at those gop primary results. donald trump walking away with the vote there. ted cruz and marco rubio practically tied here in south carolina. john kasich and ben carson finished lowest. but again, it was jeb bush who announced he's dropping out of the race. geoff: let's talk with wyff news 4's myra ruiz now. myra, it's no surprise that donald trump won. myra: that's right geoff. it was pretty much expected that donald trump would take south carolina. during his speech last night, he said he expects to gather more votes as his gop opponets drop
>> a number of the pundts say well if a couple of the other candidates drop out if you add their scores together it's going to equal trump. these geniuses, they don't understabd as people drop out i am gooing to get a lot of thoses votes also. you just don't add them together. myra: wyff news 4's patrick hussion was in spartanburg with trump supporters, and he described the atmosphere as the results came in last night. patrick: marco rubio had a handful of big endorsements from the state of south carolina. donald trump, not as many. there is one man who has been following him throughout the way and that's henry mcmaster. you've been following him the longest. you have been introducing him. >> it is wonderful. this is a great night. i don't know if i have had a

economic stagnation that should've been gone a long time ago, he has the vision and understanding and the power and ambition and drive and skill to get the job done. patrick: he plans to be there and said court donald trump. he has a job here to do in south carolina. trump is heading on to nevada. myra: we will hear more from donald trump as the newscast continues. allyson: thank you, myra. another big headline coming out of the south carolina primary, jeb bush is ending his campaign for president. geoff: bush made the announcement to his supporters last night after the results were in, after saying he would stay in the race earlier this week. wyff news 4's mandy gaither was in columbia with the bush campaign. mandy: you could hear the surprise in the room as jim bush
>> the people of iowa and new hampshire have spoken. tonight, i am suspending my campaign. mandy: he thanked his staff who never gave up. i talked to several of them after this announcement and no one was expecting it. i saw tears in the eyes of some here. they came from pendleton support bush. here's what he had to say after learning bush would no longer be seeking the republican nomination. >> i did not expect this at all tonight. i asked the staffers when they found out, and they said the same time you did. lindsey graham's demeanor kind
jeb has a good heart. he is taken a special interest in me and my family. it's really sad. >> i thought we would pull forward for another few states. god has a plan and all of this. several people say they don't know who they will support now. geoff: many had eyes on who would finish second in the south carolina primary, senator ted cruz or senator marco rubio. allyson: the two finished in a virtual tie for second, with rubio earning a small percentage more than cruz. wyff news 4's tim waller was with marco rubio in columbia while our nigel robertson was with ted cruz campaign. tim: it wasn't the first place for marco rubio, a tie for
cruz, gave rubio's campaign the jumpstart it very much needed. >> if it is god's will that we should win this election, then history will say that on this night in south carolina we took the first steps forward in the beginning of a new american sanctuary. thank you, south carolina tim: rubio said to him, the state of south carolina will always be the place of new beginnings and a fresh start. tim waller, wyff news 4, columbia. nigel: it was not the night senator cruz was hoping for. he even told the crowd he didn't know if it would be a second or third place win. in the end it was razor thin, but the senator ended up coming up in third place. in front of a very large and energetic crowd, ted cruz told his supporters that this race is far from over. he says he will win the

another remarkable result. nigel: the cruz campaign had an aggressive ground game in south carolina. they are now taking that ground game to nevada and their hope is for a strong showing on super tuesday, especially in his home state of texas. in columbia with the cruz campaign, nigel robertson, wyff 4 news. geoff: after starting his campaign with strong poll numbers late last year, dr. ben carson ended up coming in last in the south carolina primary. allyson: before the votes were counted, doctor carson had already made up his mind to stay in the race. >> there are news people here who think that i'm gonna make a concession speech. i'm not going anywhere. allyson: wyff news 4's mike mccormick followed the carson campaign from greenville and talks about his motivation to continue his bid for the white house. mike: the out come dr. ben carson wanted from the primary.
support at the party that happened at the embassy suites in greenville area dr. carson said that enthusiasm he found and that's why he is staying in this. on tuesday, he told us than that no matter what happened, he was staying in it and he's keeping his word. he told the crowd here we will take american back. dr. ben carson is staying in the race. geoff: governor john kasich was the only candidate not watching the returns in south carolina. allyson: instead he focused on the states getting ready to vote on super tuesday. he started the day in vermont, then traveled to massachusetts where he spoke to supporters. he discussed the fact that he didn't spend the day in south carolina. >> look, we were there only about six or seven days and i wish there had been a little bit more time, but people thought we would not do better than getting a few people to fill a volkswagen and we'll at least

coworkers had to shoot throughout the day. they mostly dealt with normal hiccups like people who came in with old addresses for people who came to the wrong precinct. >> it was a good day. the numbers a lot late in the afternoon. a lot of people voted before 1:00. >> how was your voting experience? >> very quick. >> voters hardly had to wait in line at all. there was a high turnout with more than 575 voters. they will be back at it or the democratic primary. get your address change done before tuesday. otherwise, you might have to take care of it at your polling location and that may make you wait in line longer than you
geoff: jeb bush stopped by a polling place to meet voters. allyson: why was he allowed inside is it legal? any candidate can be inside location, but they can't wear anything identifying like a button. >> those people to like anybody near the polls, but legally they can be there. allyson: they cannot distribute any campaign literature. let's go back to myra. myra: we're going to start with a shooting that happened in columbia area a fight led to shots fired at a crowded mall. this happened at the columbia mall last night when two men were fighting and a third man jumped in. at some point, two men pulled
people involved ran away and right now police of not identified a suspect in the cake -- case. friends and family remembered for people who were killed in a quadruple homicide. the vigils remembered and it took place yesterday afternoon. a profound shot dead inside their home last november and no arrests made in case you -- case. authorities want to know what started a building fire in anderson county. sky 4 is over the scene yesterday afternoon. no injuries were reported in that plays. authorities in greenville are trying to figure out how up vote ended up in the middle of the

we are seeing a lot of turnout at the polls. the weather is perfect, people are excited. we make presidents in south carolili and we think it's going to be a great day for marco rubio. geoff: across the upstate, thousands came out early to get their vote in for the republican primary day. allyson: but some polling places still had some problems. some locations, were smoother than others. in taylors, at eastside high school, a wrestling tournament moved the polling location to a different part of the school, in simpsonville, a couple says, a polling volunteer made a mistake, allowing the husband to vote in place of his wife when an address change went wrong. >> she wont be allowed to cast her vote in this state because somebody didn't do their job and on top of that, they didn't think it was a big deal. they were just like its ok you voted for her. >> i usually see more people at this time but like i said, the directions are not clear. i mean, they need more signs out so people can really know where
allyson: the director of the greenville county board of elections says, there have been a few issues, mainly with voters who made their address and county changes too late to vote. he says anytime it's a saturday election, it's more stressful because the city has functions going on that can change where folks are used to voting. geoff: during the election, we were keeping our eyes on social media, to see what people and the candidates were saying about the election. allyson: jeb bush tweeted out simply, thanks, after he surprised supporters by announcing he was bowing out of the race. a tweet from donald trump after his victory in south carolina, what a great night, thank you south carolina, a truly special place with truly amazing people. you can find much more on the candidates on the wyff 4 app and wyff4.com. geoff: now that the republicans are moving away from south carolina, the democratic primary is less than a week away.
past week getting ready for yesterday's nevada caucuses yesterday before the republican polls even closed here, the results were in for nevada. and it was hillary clinton earning a very close win over bernie sanders. >> is this a great night or what? we just won nevada! >> what this entire campaign has been about is the issue of momentum, is the issue of bringing more and more people into the political process bernie sanders will be making a shift campaign stop today in greenville, at the bon secours wellness arena. the doors open at 3:00 p.m. myra: turning to our morning headlines today, columbia police are looking for two men who fired shots at a crowded mall. the columbia police chief said the incident happened at the columbiana mall last night, when two men were fighting. and a third man jumped in. police said at some point two of the men pulled out guns, and shot into the air. investigators said once the
involved in incident ran away. right now police have not , identified the suspects in the case. law enforcement agencies in kalamazoo are scrambling to find answers after multiple people were shot and killed at random saturday night. the shootings happened over a five hour time period at various locations. the highest body count was in the parking lot of a cracker barrel restaurant in texas township, where police are saying five people died. six people in all were killed, and police are saying up to three more people are critically injured. shortly after midnight police said they arrested a person of interest who they have strong suspicions of being the shooter. >> because we don't know why. there is not connection between any of them. this all appears to be random. this is your worse case scenario that any community can have myrara at this police have not point, yet released the names of the the victims or the man they have in custody.
and a gunman are dead after a several hour stand-off that ended with gunfire overnight. investigators say officers were called to the home of 45-year-old charles lambert for a domestic dispute late friday. after a six hour stand-off, two tactical units entered the home and exchanged gunfire with lambert. lambert was killed along with narcotics agent lee tartt. investigators say lambert's wife and 10-year-old daughter were inside the home during the stand-off but were safely rescued. geoff: thank you.
