sabrina: we're back with meterologist sam schreier... sam: (sam adlibs) weekend of snow and deep cold air, we are turning up the heat in the forecast, but we do have to wait a couple days. today is going to be mostly cloudy but temperatures should be able to warm above freezing, which means we are looking at some good snow melt today. highs will climb into the upper 30s and then lows tonight will fall down to a low near 30. a system is going to pass through the state tonight into tomorrow morning and should bring us a wide range of precipitation. we'll start out with a pretty good amount of rain overnight and as we go towards tomorrow morning some of that rain will turn into freezing rain. temperatures will bottom out by tomorrow morning and we'll see a very wet snow with around 1 to 2 inches of accumulation possible. highs tomorrow will stay above freezing in the afternoon and then cool back down into the mid 20s that night. warmer air will return rapidly starting on thursday 50s and they will likely stick around through saturday! elias

local 5's meterologist sam schreier was out at the show earlier today to meet with vendors and visitors. the home and garden show has more than 53- hundred square feet of garden landscapes to walk through, as well as featured guests like kevin o'connor, host of pbs's this old house. one of the vendors, habitat for humanity, is hoping a unique item from their group catches the eye of visitors. sam/ with meterologist sam schreier. sam/ weather adlib: most of today will be a typical cold and quiet day, but this afternoon and evening we are going to get a bit more light snow. we'll start with partly to mostly cloudy skies and keep a cold and quiet day with highs climbing into the low 20s. late today but this evening we'll see light snow slowly move in from northwest iowa. snow totals do look fairly light and in the metro i'm expecting around 0.5 to 1.5 inches of fairly light and fluffy snow. there will be a bit of a breeze overnight so some visibility will be low if you are driving around tonight, but rush hour traffic should not be affected. friday a deep arctic cold front will be in the process of dropping in, so we will briefly hit a high of 20 but it will be fighting a strong northwest wind all day. friday night and saturday morning temperatures will drop below zero state wide and in the metro we will likely land somewhere right next to -4 degrees. >>> you can see the full video on our facebook page right now
