let's go straight to our chief political analyst gloria borger in washington. so it is officially official, you know, from the scene of iowa, hillary clinton got it, closest of all calls there. your response in terms of how she takes it moves forward? >> she's happier to win than not win, no matter by how small a margin. however, there's a lot of concerns you have to have if you're in the clinton campaign coming out of this small margin of victory. you know, when you look at entrance polls ewere talking about into wee hours last night a few things pop out at me. one is the fact that bernie sanders continued to get those younger voters, including younger women voters. the questions of trust that seem to plague her, and most importantly, i think, this question of who is the candidate that best understands my needs, right? and bernie sanders, by 3-1 margin, beats her on that. and so, i think as you look towards new hampshire, i think she's got to warm herself up a little bit that way in order to compete with him on those issues that really go go to your kind of co

cnn senior washington correspondent jeff zeleny is with us. traveling with the bernie sanders campaign in nevada. let's just get reaction first from the sanders camp. this is key. and sanders really needs the minority vote. >> there's no doubt about it, poppy. the sanders campaign would have been happy to have this endorsement. but they were not expecting it. jim clyburn is an esteemed member of congress which also puts him in the establishment cam and bernie sanders is running against the establishment so, you know, the advisers on the sanders campaign say look, they certainly respect the congressman, but they believe endorsements aren't what's driving this election. and they may be right, i mean, i remember so well in 2008 where james clyburn declined to get into this race at all. it created such internal fight in the clinton campaign. bill clinton called the morning after the south carolina primary, screaming at james clybu clyburn. he writes about it in his book that came out a couple years ago and said, you know, he accused him of tipping

let's go back to wolf in washington. >> our political directors, you are looking at all the numbers. who showed up and what they won. >> he asked the voters as they showed up, what are you looking for in a candidate quality. this will help explain to everyone watching why ted cruz is where he is. take a look at this. among the voters that said i am looking for a candidate who shares my values, ted cruz is demolishing the field. 37% for cruz and 21% for rubio and 16% for carson and 7% for paul. that is 41% of the republican electorate. that was an important quality. when we asked about the quality of someone who can win, the electability question. rubio and 25% for trump and 22% for cruz and 2% for carly fiorina. not as many caucus goers looking for electability as for someone who shares their values. this quality, telling it like it is, that is the donald trump thing. that is what he is campaigning on. 67% of voters looking for a candidate who said i want someone who tells it like it is. only 15% of the republican caucus going electorate is looking for that quality. with four oust te

he will hold a rally and then return back to washington, d.c. to cast some votes tomorrow. >> he lost to donald trump by more than 60,000 votes. donald trump had more than 60,000 votes ahead of ted cruz. clearly a very significant number. i want to go over to john king right now. the evangelical vote very important in south carolina as it was in iowa, not so much in new hampshire. >> no, not so much in new hampshire, but ted cruz stuck waiting fo are a number of mall towns to report, but it looks like ted cruz is at the moment is holding on to third place. some small places in there could change the math, but if he comes out third, what does he do, he has a win in iowa and a show in new hampshire. they go on to south carolina and why is this a big state, often decisive, but not this year, but ted cruz in iowa with the evangelicals. let's look at the population here. the deeper the color the more evangelicals you find. let me shrink this down. the big ad war is here. this is critical to a christian conservative. this part of the state is critical

anderson back to you in washington. >> we'll see more people turning out in the last few hours. what do you think -- >> why are you smiling? >> it's not just because i work for ted cruz. i feel like we finally found a conservative who can win. look at what ted cruz faced in this election. not only was he competing with donald trump. on his birther issue, on his evangelical faith. he was being attacked fiercely by the republican party. you had all of these gop king makers of the past saying he could never win. don't he did it. i don't think this is a win for ted cruz, this is a conservative product, they sought a leader who can stand for conservative principal, this may be the beginning of something much bigger, this is a great night for conservatives. >> how concerned were you when you heard there was record turnout on the gop side. all night long, so many people have been saying record turnout is going to break in donald trump's favor. hillary clinton 49.9%. bernie sanders 49.4%. with 84% of the vote now. so that race is tightening, it is still anybody's race. an extraordinary
