i know a lot of politicians in washington. good guys and bad guys. i know liars in washington. but i will tell you, i know ted cruz. he is not a liar. his honesty is impeccable. his integrity is unshakable. and the last thing, you cannot beat a democrat with a democrat. if you think you are going to beat hillary clinton with somebody else who is for amnesty , because while ted cruz was saying we've got to build a wall, while ted cruz was saying you are not doing the gang of eight bill, donald trump was meeting with dreamers. donald trump was telling mitt romney he is too tough on mexico. he is saying these things now to get elected. but between planned parenthood and all the other things he's said he's going to do, you cannot beat a democrat with a democrat. he will lose in the general. for the first time since 1920, we have a true constitutionalist, somebody who will stand on that constitution, for the first time since 1920. if we don't forget our principles, if we as conservatives all across america realize this guy means what he says and says what he means, this guy is quite

in washington, she has voted 90% of the hers time. she has repeatedly voted for deep cuts in pell grants which would make college more extensive for new hampshire students and voting against young people's ability to refinance their students loans. she voted to turn medicare into a voucher program while protecting social security from benefit cuts. while it comes to our environment, she has repeatedly sign account koch brothers while our beautiful natural resources and places pay the price. she has fought to protect tax breaks for big oil and just recently she was once again the only new england senator to oppose critical clean water protections. she voted against the ipartisan bill to expand background checks for gun purchases. and she even opposes closing the loophole that allows known and suspected terrorists to buy guns and explosives. he has voted repeatedly to defund planned parenthood and sports allowing employers to deny women coverage for birth control and preventive care. and she has said and these are her words that she cer

well, washington, d.c., may start doing just that. after murders in the nation's capital went up 54% last year, the city council recently voted for a crime bill that includes a provision to give money to those who are most likely to commit acts of violence. >> all those in favor of the amendment in the nature of a substitute, say aye. >> 200 people per year could receive payments in conjunction with mentorship and therapy. criticism of the proposal has been witherring, as you might imagine, and the bill is not certain to go through, but here is a really crazy part. another city has run a similar program for several years paying out tens of thousands of dollars, and it appears to be working. in 2007 the bay area city of richmond, california, was the ninth most dangerous city in the united states. things were so bad, the city officials thought about asking the national guard to be sent in. instead, they created the office of neighborhood safety, a new department, separate from law enforcement, that would focus on reaching out to the com

and as we wait for the house, more about the iowa caucuses from this morning's washington journal. get ready to cauc catherine lucey joins us. let's begin with this poll from the des moines register some of the bloomberg political poll. donald trump is on top was 28%, followed by senator ted cruz at 23%, which slipped a little bit. senator marco rubio follows with 15%. dr. ben carson at 10%. withing it out, rand paul 5%. chris christie with 3%. the others with 2% or less. catherine lucey, what are your predictions for tonight on the republican side? guest: i think we have all learned not to make too many predictions for it obviously, donald trump has remained a leader for a very long time. looking into this pretty good, and ted cruz has lost some ground. i think the big questions we're waiting to see is the difference here between organization and momentum. donald trump has a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of excitement. there are a lot of people at his rallies who say they have never caucused before. ted cruz has invested heavily in a very strong traditional organization to turn people

>> voters won't change in washington. they know this is the election between those power brokers in washington who want to maintain the status quo and all of those americans who believe the government should work for the people rather than the other way around. that's the competition you're seeing. people are tired of political correctness and those really focused on favoritism for a few here in washington rather than opportunity for all. >> well, you want change in washington to be clear, to be sure, and the question is, who is most likely to get that change? it's the issue of, you know, electability versus purity, really. when voters in iowa were asked about who the most electable was, it was marco rubio at 43%, donald trump at 25%, cruz 22. you have a record and heritage has a record of being on the side of purity sometimes instead of electability. what do you think in this case? >> well, there's really no purity in politics. what we want to do is move things in a positive direction. americans know we haven't been doin

can a businessman deal with washington politics? >> i think there is a lot of anxiety around certain pieces of his background particularly in foreign policy. his praise for vladmir putin, for instance, has raised some eye brows around capitol hill. senator claire mccaskell said she thought there would be giggled around the globe if he were dealing with foreign leaders. so that i think is an area of real concern that he doesn't have experience in. and some of his stancings are pretty controversial. for instance, he said he would build a wall along the southern border with mex coand deport all the illegal immigrants. that doesn't bode well for trying to reach some compromise on the overhaul of the system and lawmakers have said they don't think anything would happen on that if trump were elected president. >> and what former mexican president fox saying no way mexico would pay for the wall. >> i think the payment of that could become contentious among other things. it seems hard to imagine that congress would appropriate funding for t
