. >> the alleged gunman's father gave a brief interview with the washington post. and his son doesn't have anything in the history that would point to behavior like this. and said she was working with the wounded veterans. but in 2007 you were looking at something in his past. there was an assault charge and how is that relevant to this case? will it be brought in? the common wealth attorney said that hamilton suffered a conviction for assault. i want to know if it is was a misdemeanor or felony or he was allowed to own a fire arm. he worked in the pentagon. but he told officials they could look in the records, and soon as he got an attorney that consent was withdrawn. they will now have to it file a subpeona. >> does that typically happen? >> as a defense attorney i want to know everything first. if jenna or joanna said we set and i want to know those things before the prosecutor knows them. and we don't know if if he is deployed. when they are mentioned in the we don't know at all. but i am curious how the military service will be used and here you have a defense

our senior washington correspondent joe johns is live in minneapolis where bernie sanders is scheduled to hold a campaign rally in a little more than one hour. they are also very, very enthusiastic, joe. >> i think so, very enthusiastic. and we're seeing people stream in right now. still got an hour and a half ago. a lot of these people sort of tipify the bernie sanders team across the country, younger, appearing to be students and what have you. but, look, hillary clinton is in some ways in the driver's seat right now and her campaign is trying to appear as if they're not confident, they're not overconfident. they're trying to be cautious and at the same time they're trying to pose themselves as the campaign that is going to win the nomination, the democratic nomination for president. hillary clinton is also talking more about donald trump. and that's a little bit of trying to appear like a general election nominee. but i have to tell you, bernie sanders has been talking about donald trump as well on the campaign trail of late. and it's not just a reflection of who thinks they're in t

joining us now, david drucker, senior political correspondent washington examiner. david, let's with the democratic race. there has been talk in the last month or two that bernie sanders was really going to get hillary clinton a run for her money, that this was not going to be a coronation on the democratic side. as that narrative changed? >> i don't know if it's completely changed and it was clear after iowa and new hampshire that bernie sanders was giving hillary clinton a run for her money. nevada and south carolina look a lot better for clinton and heading into super tuesday she looks like she is a relatively good shape so it's possible the democratic race could be wrapped up a lot quicker than a lot of us thought. jon: could happen as soon as tomorrow? will she potentially run out with so many delegates that it would be mathematically impossible for him to catch her? >> i'm not sure about that and bernie sanders still has a loyal following. he's raising a lot of money but i think one of the things clinton needed to do given the dynamics of her race with senator

kristin fisher is life for us in washington with more on this story. good morning, kristin. >> good morning, heather. it is just awful because this was the officer's first shift as a police officer. she was sworn in on friday. the police department sends this picture with the caption welcome officers. they were sworn in today and begin their shift this weekend. be safe. the very next day officer guindon and tw other officers were responding to a call about a domestic disturbance. when they approached the front door the suspect opened fire. all officers were hit. officer guindon died at the hospital. the other two are still recovering. ronald hamilton recovered without further incident. they found his wife inside dead. they later found the couple's 11-year-old son he was scared but not hurt. the 32-year-old is facing six charges including first degree murder of his wife and capitol murder of a police officer. his neighbors can't believe it. >> he was a good guy his wife was quiet and unassuming. their child was the same age as my son. he worked for the

they're furious with washington. they're furious with politicians in both parties who have been lying to them. and i think donald is a manifestation of that. but what the polling consistently shows, head to head, donald against me, we beat donald handily 56 to 40. i think donald has a relatively high floor of about 20 or 25% that will be with him almost no matter what. as he said, he could walk out on fifth avenue, shoot someone and those supporters would still be with him. that may be true. but i also think he's got a fairly low ceiling. i think it's 40 to 45%, and a majority of republicans don't think he's the right nominee. if you look nationally, in the head-to-head polls, donald consistently loses to hillary. i consistently beat hillary. so the question right now is, how do we prevent nominating a candidate who loses the general election, or for that matter, if donald wins the general election, who the heck knows what he would do as president? we needed a president we can trust.
