he's live in our lynchburg bedford newsroom with an update. jean, a consulting firm is studying whether a train station in bedford would be feasible. it's a necessary step needed to change minds at the state level, where officials have previously said trains will come through bedford traveling to and from roanoke. instead of passing by the town, one group wants the trains to stop at a bedford passenger station. on thursday the bedford/franklin regional rail initiative announced it's partnering with a consulting firm out of richmond, to try and make the bedford station a reality. charles kolakowski/bedford town manager: "this is a major step and significant milestone in the process." wendel companies, a group that studied the feasibility of a roanoke station, will now conduct similar research on a proposed stop along bedford's plunkett street. the project is needed to show the virginia department of rail and public transportation that a bedford stop would be viable. chip badger/consultant: "we're trying to convince them that this is a good idea

today, the town of bedford lost one of its finest. allen huddleston was the last member of the bedford boys unit from world war two and he died this morning. tonight we remember his life through the eyes of his best friend. "that's gone. gone. something we can't get back." on monday, robert key was sitting beside one of his best friends, allen huddleston. "i said, allen, you know i love you like a brother." he said, "i know." a couple days later, and at the age of 96, huddleston passed away in his sleep. when asked about his character, key was quick to respond. "do you know anything about southern gentlemen? yes. he was number one." huddleston was in the army national guard. he was assigned to the 116th infantry, 29th division and he was with company a, known as "the bedford boys". but just before d- day, huddleston broke his ankle during training and his unit stormed normandy without him. "he said, robert, if i hadn't of gotten wounded two weeks before d-day, i would have died with the rest of those boys." so huddleston may not have

wdbj7's tim bedford newsroom to show us what's being done about it. jean, the bedford regional water authority is working directly with firefighters in forest to start a hydrant maintenance program. the renewed focus on this issue was prompted by a fire sunday afternoon. flames were already burning out of control when crews arrived to battle this fire on declaration terrace sunday. to make matters worse, when firefighters tried connecting to the nearest hydrant it wouldn't open. assistant chief bryan byrd/forest volunteer fire department: "the hydrant failed, so we had to find a secondary source." assistant chief bryan byrd with the forest volunteer fire department says non-working hydrants aren't a major problem, but it's something they often encounter. byrd: "most of the time the water is not turned on to the hydrant, especially in a lot of the newer subdivisions in the area." forest is the most populated part of bedford county, with about 10,000 residents. around 900 fire hydrants have been placed throughout the area, but until now they haven't bee
