i spoke to an aide to bernie sanders who said john lewis is a great american hero that bernie sanders respects. that just goes to show you you don't push back against an icon like john lewis, but we've heard supporters of bernie sanders trying to back him up here saying, look, he was an activist, he was arrested. he's out with an ad starring erica garner, who are the daughter of eric garner who died in manhattan after a police officer had him in a chokehold. she says she wants to support bernie sanders because he's a protester and is going to stand up for criminal justice reform. erica's mother has endorsed hillary clinton. clinton is going to try to focus on some issues that she thinks are going to resonate with black voters, hispanic voters. immigration, crime for instance, and also key, they're trying to paint bernie sanders as an opponent of president obama and hillary clinton as his heir apparent. >> thank you. michael nutter, the former mayor of philadelphia and our other panelists. let me start with you. congressman lewis, that was a big statement. it was a pretty damning state

so this is a big night for bernie sanders. as jeff weaver, his campaign manager, just noted, we don't know the final numbers yet. likely one will win one or two delegates more than that. 90 precincts are still out. wolf, where are they? they're all spread around the state. but the bulk of them, we still only have 88% of the vote in the largest county in iowa. polk county. that's a big thing. secretary clinton has been winning by this margin about all night long. there's no guarantee when the others come in they'll be consistent. but she has that roughly seven-point margin throughout the night. so they would assume that, although there could be some sanders precincts we don't know. where else are they? over anywhere lynn county you see 95% of the vote, that means there's still a few precincts out. bernie sanders winning in the cedar rapids suburbs. out in dubuque county 97%. that's gone up in the last couple minutes. they're getting close to finishing up here. secretary clinton with a lead up there. senator sanders, though, run

bernie sanders wins new hampshire. obviously the south carolina democratic primary is coming in a week. this could be a big thing in terms of momentum for either of the candidates? >> absolutely. from the hillary clinton point of view, basically a tie in iowa. listen, of course, a next door neighbor. new hampshire, 22-point lead. a very red state. if she doesn't do well, what's the excuse? what i want to hear. what can you say? a lot of people of color. i'm glad we talked about labor. sometimes talk so much about race we forget. in nevada, labor is a very, very big deal. if you talk to people there, there's a split. the labor leadership really wants hillary clinton but the labor members many of them are swayed by bernie. in a caucus environment, it is very hard for a member to stand up and say, to my labor boss, hey, i don't care. i'm going to the other side of the room. how that plays out will are very interesting tonight. >> we actually call them leaders in our party. labor bosses. >> sort of a derogatory term, just

yes, bernie sanders crushed hillary clinton with young voters and bernie sanders' problem is he's not turning them out. if you look at the difference between this primary and the last democratic primary in 2008, based on what i saw, the young voters were the smallest part of the electorate and dropped by four or five points in terms of their percentage of the electorate. he's not energizing. young people are not being energized to turn out. both sides have work to do. i will say this, new hampshire like anywhere else, it's complicated and unpredictable. i'm not going to come on tv and predict the most unpredictable electorate in the country. bernie sanders' strengths in a lot of these polls is based on independent voters. remember this, independent voters can go in and pull either parties' ballot. if they think the republican side is more interesting to them on that day, and they pull the republican ballot, that's a vote bernie sanders was hoping to get. so this is a big jigsaw puzzle they are both trying to figure out. >> mo, quickly, what are the risks for bernie sanders tonight? ho

based on bernie sanders' gun record brady bill. some of these things will come up tonight. how does he diffuse that? >> that is his biggest challenge, by the way, i say secretary clinton will go after him aggressively on that. she has in the past. he will likely say, look i'm come around on these pieces, i'm lined with you, but it's one issue where she's a little to the left of him. i expect her to go back to that point quite frequently tomt. she's be strong in terms of defending herself. i think you'll hear her talk about her record going all the way back to her days as first lady. i think its's going to be critical for her to tap into those independent voters. >> because you lev heive here, is the closest for home tonight? >> young suburban moms, places like hillsboro county, the young middle aged voters, above 30, below 50, if they move back to hillary clinton, it will be key. >> if we see any shift in the poll numbers as well. >> absolutely. the other thing i'll be looking for, secretary clinton started her push for increasing

if bernie sanders were to somehow win in texas, if bernie sanders were to somehow win in georgia, and these are not highly plausible, highly expected outcomes, but if he wins michigan, obviously massachusetts or vermont, that is obviously not enough. he has got to win some state that she is expected to win. try tohey are going to break his back by winning some states. massachusetts, they have a political consulting group that is based there, and they are going to try to work very hard to keep bernie sanders from winning there, they are not going to try to shut him out, what they are going to try to shut him down. hillary clinton is called by the justice department about her e-mails, that could spook voters at least. in south carolina, she could go in and win in march in some unexpected places. win, ofe other way to course, the other way to do it in some unexpected states would be to do it in these battleground states. innie sanders could do it ohio, michigan, florida, maybe, maybe you could say that it is a tough road for bernie sanders, no doubt about it. coming up, it is a dig depar

sanders won in new hampshire last night, but that bernie sanders beat hillary clinton we a historic margin in new hampshire. despite that news, technically it was a tie. they tied last night in new hampshire. in terms of progress toward nominating the democratic party's presidential candidate, new hampshire has 32 delegates. two of them have yet to be awarded. so 30 of them we can say what they're going to be. we'll get back to those other two in a second. but of the 30 delegates that can be assigned based on the outcome of last night's new hampshire primary, in which, again, bernie sanders beat hillary clinton by 22 freaking points. but if you look at the delegate allocation after last night's new hampshire primary, it's a tie. bernie sanders gets 15 delegates and hillary clinton gets 15 delegates. what? it's kind of incredible. there are 32 delegates all together, as i said from new hampshire. 24 of them are awarded based on the vote in last night's primary. so because he won by a big margin, bernie sanders got the lion's share of those. he got 15. secretary clinton got nine. that
