boston area through 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. this is a major atlantic storm that we are lucky much of it stayed offshore a woman we've seen high winds and periods of low visibility all day and bands of snow that have come through the city. snow is expected to taper off some time around midnight. the storm did not call for a parking ban in the city of boston but our department of public work has been busy with as many as 500 vehicles out in the roads. they did a good job here pre pretreated the roads this morning for the commute in. we also want to make sure that the conditions that we have held up all day and will be able to stay on top of the storm. currently our focus is on conditions. we ask people to stay off the road as much as possible so our done. we are also confident the boston we have boston public school plow contractors cleaning our parking lots. the custodians are clearing sidewalks in front of entrances and around the schools. the bus contractors working overnight to be ready for the morning ride

laura viera of east boston, also a boston school student, just a few days shy of her 16th birthday was pronounced dead after being transported to milton hospital last night. her family members were at the hospital and are now mourning her death. police say laura was on foot crossing north main street at oak street in randolph around 8:00 last night. when she was hit by a 2000 chrysler sedan. police say she was in the crosswalk at the time. but that the driver did have police say the driver, a 21-year-old randolph man stayed at the scene and was cooperative. investigators say there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs. >> what we believe so far far is that the driver of the vehicle did stop and make himself known to police. he gave a statement. we believe the young girl was in the crosswalk at the time. and also the driver had a green light. he was going forward. it was snowing very heavily at the time of the accident last night. >> reporter: no charges filed at this time. no word on whether the victim was looking at her cell phone or had her headphones on. police say that the matter is

the city of boston has gone ahead and closed schools for tomorrow in boston. probably a great idea because travel will be poor to say the least tomorrow morning across much of southern new england. lighter apples of snow down through -- amounts of snow but lighter meaning that the numbers aren't as high but it's a heavy wet snow. shovel, plow and travel on. also the concern of minor power disruptions because winds will be out of the northwest between 10-20 tomorrow. the northwest wind was blowing offshore so there is no concern of coastal flooding, that is the storm system we deal with tomorrow and for the weekend a mix of clouds and sunshine saturday and sunday. with this cold front trying to come into new england. there are signs that perhaps we deal with senator storm early next week but the thing about tomorrow is it's the toughest from about 5:00 am to 2:00 pm tomorrow and things wind down tomorrow afternoon. in terms of travel plans as of now i would keep them. i would allow extra time for travel but if you have date night set up keep the plans because t
