south carolina has notoriously been that way. i've been six presidentials down there and it's just mean. >> why? >> well, it's in the water, or something. i don't know. i mean, it's just -- there's a lot of dirty tricks played down there. and i'll tell you, from the democrats' standpoint, bernie sanders has got a real big problem now. almost half that electorate is going to be black. and he's not had any black votes. now, i'll say this. hillary clinton, when she ran in 2008, against barack obama, was carrying the south carolina black vote 60% of the vote. then obama wins iowa, and she loses 77 to something. so whether sanders could pull that off, the big difference was it was a black candidate. but it's -- it's a tough haul. a brand-new electorate. >> naomi just had the finger pause. >> one poll in the past year in south carolina. so the numbers are -- we have no idea. >> i was going to say, we have no idea. we have got this at least from nbc. 74% of african-american voters in south carolina to sanders 17. >> right. >> say what y

south carolina does pick winners. what are we hearing and seeing tonight in these exit polls about the feel of the electorate in terms of the kind of candidate they want? >> i think that's true back to 1980. if you look at that history. >> that's right, ronald reagan. >> i think what is so fascinating about this entire cycle and we are seeing again tonight in south carolina, dana, is what is sort of driving the republican party electorate right now? this number is astounding. take a look at this. we asked voters as they headed to the polls whether or not they felt betrayed by republican party politicians. this is asked of republicans participating in the republican party. 53% of republicans today in south carolina said yes. a majority of republicans in south carolina said they feel betrayed by their own party leaders. 44% say no. that is what is happening underneath this entire primary race. and then we asked, which candidate ran the most unfair campaign? and look at this. donald trump, the winner of this category, if

south carolina is next. you can tell obviously it's a huge evangelical community, but most of march is down here. the color speaks for itself. this is evangelical bible belt for ted cruz who unlike huckabee and santorum who won iowa he has an organization, he has money. so now you have a essentially he goes at it with trump in south carolina. the question is kasich will come in with a little momentum. can he play here. the bush family now. this was critical to george bush after john mccain beat him. it will be interesting to see jeb bush on the road with his brother, but jeb bush can't afford to come in third or fourth again. he needs a break through moment. so the evangelicals are critical for ted cruz and a slice is important to marco rubio. >> remind our viewers what happened in south carolina four years ago on the republican side. >> four years ago on the republican side, newt gingrich beat mitt romney here. mitt romney along the coast here, and newt gingrich won everywhere else because santorum didn't h

again, south carolina is voting as we speak. but most people assume it's going to come out something like this. this gives it to hillary clinton. 60%/40% ratio in there. if that happens, she'll pull ahead in the pledged delegates. that would give her a lead there. what she's hoping for, she's hoping she wins the african-american vote in south carolina big and super tuesday for hillary clinton looks like. this let's assume senator sanders wins at home in vermont. senator sanders thinks he's going to win in minnesota. we'll give him minnesota. he also thinks he can win in oklahoma. he spent a lot of time there. clinton campaign says not so sure. again, just for the hypothetical, let's give senator sanders that one. he says he thinks he's kpetive in -- competitive in colorado. most of the other states, secretary clinton thinks she's going to win, largely because of her support among african-americans. if it plays out like this hillary clinton begins to pull away in the delegate count. senator sanders would pick up a bunch. remember
