let's wrap up the week and talk about the big day ahead in south carolina with kevin robillard there in washington. good morning to you. let's get started with the day after here, we're talking about swirling politics with religion, trump versus the pope and even this cover from "the new york daily news." kind of pretty much says it all. how does this play into the bulletproofness and the unsinkableness of trump, there the daily news calls him the antichrist. >> trump has taken on everyone during this campaign. the pope gets added to the list of targets here. the one thing that trump could say in this case the pope kind of started it in this fight. but, you know, particularly in south carolina, which is coming up, this isn't going to hurt him. even, you know, a huge percentage of voters in south carolina are evangelicals. evangelicals tend to view catholicism in general with a lot of skepticism. so the fact he's in a fight with the pope isn't going to hurt him there. could it hurt him, you know, in states with larger catholic populations as things go down the line say louisiana or a lot of states

king marched on washington unafraid to challenge the status quo to end racial profiling, take on police misconduct and take down a system that profits from mass imprisonment. >> there is no president who will fight harder to end institutional racism. >> this, to me, is the defining test of this race. because of where the calendar goes next. where you have either majorities or high pluralities of african-americans in the democratic electorate. if bernie sanders can break through and get a sizeable number, that means a longer race and a changed race. >> and the place to look when we get numbers out of south carolina is younger african-americans because the big question is going to be whether younger african-americans vote their race or their age. younger people have flocked to bernie sanders. and why wouldn't a younger african-american connect with his message the way a younger white person would? that's the argument that the sanders campaign is making. >> that's why you see people in the congressional black caucus come out and more aggressively support hillary clinton as they did last we

i don't live in washington d.c. i live in wisconsin so i'm very close to i think what the average, every day republican primary voter looks like and thinks about and i think that there was never an appetite for jeb bush from the beginning. it was -- the idea was that, you know, it sounded good on paper and looked good in a big play book that they put together and they thought they could just really raise a lot of money and create an appetite for it. i think the good news for america sadly for jeb bush is that this proves that money does not buy elections. he had more money than god and he could not convince more than 6% of whatever primary he was in to vote for him. so i think in a sense we can all be happy that elections cannot be bought in the united states. they're really the voice of the people that have to be listened to and i would say from the beginning that there never was on the ground in the base in the grass roots an appetite for a jeb bush campaign. >> we have to leave it right there. thanks so much to b

national correspondent washington bureau chief for buzzfeed. when you're picking a president of the united states, everybody has to endorse up. no super president or chairman of the board to point down and say pick this guy. how do you endorse up? whether you're al sharpton or congressional black caucus. how do you tell to vote for somebody. endorsements matter for president? >> they do in the sense that particularly for african-american voters, there is still a core of the black vote that is largely, you know, not entirely, but that is very much influenced by religious leaders, by the church. that voter who is in a certain demographic, meaning, black voters over 40 who do still believe in the influence of the civil rights move and reverend al sharpton is that second generation, so i think there is still something to be said for endorsements. they do still feel they have something to say. now, by the way, the entire sort of weight of the black political class endorsed hillary clinton last time and that didn't way voters at all. they went with o

back in washington, robert costa joins us, msnbc analyst as well. the republican party's reacting now to the news of trump's dominance in different ways. for some they are pushing resistance. henry barber, the nephew of hallie barber, a member of the republican national committee said, after trump has won in new hampshire and south carolina, republicans are crazy and are about to blow the white house if we don't rally to stop him, close quote. marco rubio made the case for why the party needed to nominate him. >> we can't win. if we nominate someone, if we nominate someone that half of the republican party hates, we're going to be fighting against each other all the way to november. we will never win that way. i don't care how much you may think they're funny or how interesting they may sound. if we nominate someone that 40% to 50% of our party can't stand, we are going to lose. >> katy, i don't know what all these guys are thinking, but he sounded desperate. we've got a leak in the dike, we've got to stop this thing. >> which is the case right now.
