we're following some breaking news in northwest washington. police have shut down part of m street for a deadly shooting investigation. news4's molette green is live there with the latest. what's happening? >> reporter: aaron, yes, good morning. we're in northwest d.c., here at m street. at first place northwest, as you can see, police still here on the scene with the crime tape blocking this part of where they are investigating. we can tell you a man is dead, shot last night, just before 9:00 p.m., died of his injuries at the hospital. we're working to find out what led to the shooting. but we're right in the thurston quarter community. d.c. police have long had their eyes on this area, this trouble spot. we can tell you that surveillance cameras are up. i can see key spots here. i believe there are more down the street. my photographer is swinging over to show you. that may allow police to get a better picture of what happened here. this area, this community is called a weed and feed community. that's because police are focusing on this area
