greece is warning of a humanitarian crisis. brent: as we know, greece has been the first point of entry. borders closing a bottleneck is quickly forming. over 100,000 people have come to greece already this year. our correspondent is covering the story. he joins us this evening. we see there's a camp behind us. >> freezing temperatures of love zero. you can see the camp behind me. some fireplaces. we get some warmth. the u.n. refugee or the u.n. agency for refugees told me that this can't you see was installed about five months or six months ago as a rather provisional solution. people were supposed to come here for a few hours or a few days before passing through to neighboring macedonia and going on to central europe. as you see, they see themselves somewhat trapped here. brent: you have these balkan countries that of closed their borders. greece has blasted a gathering of western european countries today. is there any movement of people to speak of? >> i think they were quite surprised of what was happening today in austria.

or the islands of greece, and then what will greece do with that? as you said, it has its own financial problems and crisis here, and the number of refugees coming is not as high as it was six months ago, but it is still very high. today at the border there was about 2,000 people who throughout the day were shipped in -- were bussed in, i would say, to cross into macedonia. greece has also another problem, is that -- at the moment only nationals from iraq, syria, and afghanistan are able to cross into macedonia, and continue their journey. there are people here that are called the economic migrant, and they are mainly from north africa, from iran, from pakistan, who are already stranded in greece who have been trying to get across in a legal ways, and they have been saying -- some manage to cross, manage to go as far as the macedonian capitol, or further into serbia, and when they are caught they are brought all the way back here to greece, and remain stranded here. so this is a huge issue for the greeks, so if the borders close or if there are quot

hoda is in on the border between greece and macedonia for us. what is the atmosphere like there hoda among the people who are trying to get across but can't get across? >> reporter: well, certainly there is a lot of anxiety and uncertainty and that is facing really not only the afghans but the iraqis and the syrians who officially still can get through the borders but at the moment of being blocked by the afghans and we are just a little bit further away than the actual crossing, you probably see behind me buses and those are waiting to transport afghan nationals all the way back to athens from what we understand from the police here they are trying to make this as peaceful as possible so that with the afghans and explaining the situation at the moment the borders on the balkin routes are closed for them and not just the macedonia but the border of macedonia and serbia and several hunt stranded there and the same in serbia and i spoke to a journ journalist in serbia and many have been sent back to croatia and others in the past few days and the

many are stranded on the border between greece and macedonia. >> reporter: the main issue issue for greece is the domino effect of imposing quotas on the number of refugees allowed into a country like austria. that will have a domino effect. you will have more people waiting in slovenia i can't, croatia, macedonia and all the way back to this country. greece has already a problem with the so-called economic migrants. those are people from north after, from iran, from pakistan, who came here who are not allowed to cross the border at the moment because they're not considered as refugees, so try tried to sneak in either by their own or using smugglers. we spoke to many of these people over the past few days and they say that even if they make it across one or two borders, if they get caught by police they will be sent all the way back to greece and that is a huge concern for this country because once they're back here, either these people try to leave again or they're stranded in greece. it has its own economic problems. at the moment it certainly cannot have this issue growing on its territ

hoda abdel hamid joins us live now from that greece macedonia border. it's dark now. we can't really see behind you very well, hoda, but tell us a little bit about that bottleneck that you have been witnessing. >> reporter: well, certainly, it has been building up over the past few days, because simply the border has been more closed an open. the last time it was open was this morning. so several hours ago, and only a hundred people managed to get through. now that bottleneck starts here at the border, but it also stretches up where a couple of thousand of people in a reception center who don't want to be there. many have left and we are told they are making their way back here to the border, because they are afraid they will be stranded in greece. and greek authorities say, in total there are about 12,000 refugees and migrants in greece at the moment, and that number just increases on a daily basis, because they keep on arriving by sea. i also want to say the humanitarian crisis could continue on the other side, because now you have the two transit camps in macedonia
