you probably heard her ask questions there of michelle wilkins. i'm curious what the reaction was on behalf of all parties when this verdict was read. >> reporter: michelle wilkins shared what she was feeling inside when she heard the verdict today. one of the very first things she told us as she came out and spoke to the media, she saas she ddesn't have hatred for dynel lane. she says she does believe in forgiveness. i wanted to know how she was able to stay so strong during her testimony last week when she had o relive everything that happened to her nearly a she told me it was the hardest part of the criminal proceedings. she said she was able to get through it with the help of her family and boulder district attorney stan garnet. she thanked the public for her support, even thanked the media for their coverage. she said she is still grieving, but shared great news, she says despite that horrific assault she still is able to have children and start a famiiy. we want to show you video from inside the courtroom when the verdict was read. it was a

michelle wilkins will testify again today? >> reporter: yesterday was the only day michelle wilkins is going to be speaking as part of this trial. she is the woman whose baby was cut from her and that baby did not survive. prosecutors put michelle wilkins on the stand and her testimony was powerful. she spoke about answering a craigslist ad for maternity clothes, and in the courtroom she identified the person she met, dynel lane. she went to her house and there she said lane showed her several items of clothing, and wilkins started to get uncomfortable and wanted to leave. dynel lane just kept talking over her and convincing her to stay. eventually, michelle wilkins said when she tried to leave by going up the stairs from the basement, lane hit her in the back and then the attack began. on her neck. she began punching her, hittingler, and then the moment that led to michelle wilkins passing out. >> she pinned down my arms with her legs and actually used i remember she was trying so hard to cut me. and when she got closer she b

she allegedly stabbed michelle wilkins and cat -- and cut out her unborn baby. jamie leary's live at the boulder county courthouse with the very latest for us. good afternoon jamie. >> reporter: britt this wrapped up much more quickly than anyone expected. the fate of 35-year-old dynel lane now rests in the hands of attorneys from both sides took closing arguments. the prosecution with the last word arguing that while it may have been a bad plan, her plan was to commit for -- first- degree murder. the defense argued that they attempted manslaughter but when you look at the crime it's attempted murder. >> why would she wait so long after miss wilkins got to her house to attacker. why wouldn't she have a plan of how she was going to kill her. why would not she have a story to tell her family or at the very least a story to tell the police. it just doesn't make any sense. it doesn't make any sense why a woman, a mother of two, who has someone who loved her, who didn't even want to have kids, would do something like this. it doesn't make any sense because it was a h

she lured michele wilkins to her home. wilkins said that she went into moment and -- home and that's when she was attacked. dynel lane gave a statement and she said that michele wilkins was the attacker. >> it was a struggle. i was yelling. i was maybe trying to get my neighbors to hear me and i just -- is trying to grab for her phone, but she, i think, had a lock on it. i'm not sure. but it was like -- i was trying to call 911. i tried to yell at her but she would not stop. >> reporter: we heard witnesses testify that dynel lane changed her story several times. and prosecutors brought up the fact that she said that she was pregnant and that may have been the defense, again, didn't call any witnesses. closing arguments will begin today. and then the jurors will get the case. >> 100 years if she's convicted. thank you, tarhonda. >>> a woman and a young child were seriously hurt when they were involved in a crash. both were not wearing any seat belt when they were involved in a crash. the woman was supposed to have her baby

[no audio] and choked her. the unborn baby did not survive. we want to warn you that it is such a disturbing story and some of the testimony in the trial was pretty graphic. molly granthom has more on that's new on "primetime." >> reporter: prosecutors say she was desperate for a baby. she was faking a pregnancy for over a year and even holding a baby shower. her boyfriend was increasingly skeptical and about to kick her out. >> she was given an ult ultimatum and her time was running out. so she lured michelle wilkins to her home, brutally attacked her, tried to kill her and cut her unborn baby from her uterus to pass off as her own. >> reporter: at the time she was 7 months pregnant with the baby girl she named aurora. last week wilkins took the stand. it is the first time since the attack she spoke publicly. >> i just thought of her and i wanted to survive for her. >> reporter: they say lanell cut the baby from the womb using kitchen knives. excruciating pain. >> i could feel the b

michele wilkins testified trying to fight back. >> michele wilkins described that killed her unborn mother. she was buying maternity clothes after responding to lane's craigslist ad. lane began to scratch and push her as she began to leave. >> part of me wanted to give earth benefit of the doubt and i said that i have a buzz or what was it? she said, i think i got it and then she did it again >> reporter: second later, lane shoved her into a side bedroom, tried to choke her and smash tried to choke her and smash her bottle over her head. >> i remember thinking of aurora and feeling like i really -- i thought of her. i felt like i wanted to survive. also for her. >> reporter: wilkins says she lost consciousness for a period of time and awoke with a sharp pain. >> i could feel my intestines outside of my body >> reporter: according to began several months before the attack. lane claimed she had a due date of of late they are year. the baby never arrived. >> we were to take off work and we would go and sit in his waiting room for a couple of hours and something always went wrong. >> reporter:
