he's interesting because he is one of the few black officers on the dallas s.w.a.t. team. she's come to the job with a really his own complicated feelings about race and police he grew up in a core neighborhood that was overpoliced by cops. and he understands a lot of the concerns that people have with law enforcement and how policing is occurring in this country. so he's spent his whole career feeling as if he's straddling two worlds of cop and black man. the book is really a tick tech account of what happens that night. while it does focus heavily on the cops it also includes story of others who were impacted that night one of the main characters is a -- woman by the name of taylor she's a mother of four. who went down to show her son what a peaceful protest looks like she had felt compelled to speak out after the castile shooting so you get to know her story. another one of the main subjects is a trauma surgeon in the er park land hospital he's the only black trauma surgeon on staff of 12 at the hospital and spent that night desperately trying to save one after another
