should the san francisco district attorney, recall. >> we are live in san francisco tonight. work next month. voters will head to the polls. hello, everyone, and welcome. i'm catherine heenan. one of the most controversial issues on that ballot. is this question shell chase, a brooding be recalled from the office of district attorney. and tonight, jason burdine is here to address the concerns of voters. thank you for doing this week. we appreciate it. mister bourdain, good to be with you took office in 2020, you ran on progressive reform. you have always said i think from day one that your top priority is keeping people safe, making people feel safe. and some san francisco residents are saying they do not. a poll commissioned by your opponents as 73% of likely voters disagree that are keeping the city safe. if that's how people feel, what are you doing about it? >> we've got a lot of work to do to make san francisco the safest city possible. we need everybody to feel safe and to be safe in their homes in their neighborhoods and everywhere in our city. and i'm really proud of

we were a center for people with intellectual and development cal disabilities in san francisco san francisco. we also have a program for individuals that have acquired brain injury or traumatic brain injury, and we also have one of the larger after school programs for children with special needs that serves the public school system. the sf carbon fund for us has been the launching pad for an entire program here at the pomeroy center. we received about $15,000. the money was really designed to help us improve our garden by buying plants and material and also some infrastructure like a drip system for plants. we have wine barrels that we repurposed to collect rain water. we actually had removed over 1,000 square feet of concrete so that we could expand the garden. this is where our participants, they come to learn about gardening. they learn about our work in the greenhouse. we have plants that we actually harvest, and eggs from our chickens that we take up and use in cooking classes so that our participants learn as much as anybody else where food comes from. we have two kitchens here at the

watching san francisco rising with chris manors. today's special guest is mary chu. >> hi. i'm chris manors, and you're rising on san francisco rising. the show that's focused on rebuilding, reimagining, and restarting our city. our guest today is mary chu, and she's here to talk with us about art and the san francisco art commission. well come, miss chu. >> thanks for having me. >> it's great to have you. let's talk about art in the city and how art installations are funded. >> the arts committee was funded in 1932 and support civic review, design investments and art galleries. projects we have are funded by the city's art enrichment ordinance which provides 2% of construction costs for public art. >> so art is tied to construction. there's been a great deal in the southwest of the city. can you talk about some of the projects there? >> sure. our city has some exciting projected in the bayview-hunters point coming up. one artist created a photo collage. in the picture pavilion, one artist formed a collage of her one-year residency

in san francisco we have francisco park opened in two weeks. we are working on an enormous park in bayview at indian bays sin shoreline. these are terrific projects that represent the spirit in san francisco about open space and people enjoying it. if you think about it 75% of the people in the city are renters. this is their backyard. we have a responsibility to give them the back yard we can. now as some of you have heard me say over the 25 years that i have been barking about parks, victory has many parents and defeet is an orphan. today we celebrate the parents who made this possible. there are a combination of government entities and as important philanthropy from generous people who care very much about i would say because parks really benefit everybody. philanthropy is a way to make a difference in people's lives. you will hear more about that later, too. on behalf of past trust board members and the current ones, we welcome you and appreciate you being here. my job is to simply welcome some special guests. you will hear from them speaki

from office, san francisco is near the lowest level, around 35% of workers have returned in san francisco, and because of the greater share of technology companies which are formulated and makes it easier to stick to remote work, we have been kind of the poster child for a lot of this transition. kristen: got it. is that the main reason san francisco is suffering a bigger share of this, or there are other factors specific to our city as well? >> when you talk to the folks working on these issues, they blame business issues like taxes , but some of the street conditions in public safety issues that have been top of mind for a lot of residents.i spoke with some of the small businesses affected, and they are complaining about that as well. kristen: whatever the cause, what is the effect on the office vacancy rate for the rent? >> office vacancies are 25%, the highest level ever recorded in san francisco, higher than the dot com crash and the great recession. rents have dipped 15%, but not as much as you would expect, because landlords are hoping things will be turning around, so they are kee

with san francisco. the tenderloin, i didn't think it would, but it's actually gotten worse. the city is covered in filth - and homeless encampments. to many republicans, the city is a sign of everything that's wrong with the left — a town ruined by liberal drug laws and a relaxed attitude to crime. and the figurehead for that is this man, democrat chesa boudin, the elected district attorney for san francisco. boudin is a yale—educated - public defender who has never prosecuted a case. fox news has mentioned your name more than 1000 times in recent contact in the last year. it sounds like you're paying more attention to fox news than i am — and my sympathies for that. chesa boudin is a radical, part of a wave of liberal das elected in cities across america. he's responsible for which crimes get prosecuted. his detractors say he simply doesn't prosecute enough and that he's soft on crime. this is an issue we can't prosecute our way out of. the history of the war on drugs tells us that. we need real

, and stay right here in san francisco. sf made really provides wraparound resources for manufacturers that sets us apart from other small business support organizations who provide more generalized support. everything we do has really been developed over time by listening and thinking about what manufacturer needs grow. for example, it would be traditional things like helping them find capital, provide assistance loans, help to provide small business owners with education. we have had some great experience doing what you might call pop ups or temporary selling events, and maybe the most recent example was one that we did as part of sf made week in partnership with the city seas partnership with small business, creating a 100 company selling day right here at city hall, in partnership with mayor lee and the board of supervisors, and it was just a wonderful opportunity for many of our smaller manufacturers who may be one or two-person shop, and who don't have the wherewithal to have their own dedicated retail store to show t

francisco hired some engineers to analyze the material san francisco was sending to landfill. they did a waste characterization study, and that showed that most of the material san francisco was sending to landfill could be composted. it was things like food scraps, coffee grounds and egg shells and sticks and leaves from gardening. together re-ecology in san francisco started this curbside composting program and we were the first city in the country to collect food scraps separately from other trash and turn them into compost. it turns out it was one of the best things we ever did. it kept 2.5 million tons of material out of the landfill, produced a beautiful nutrient rich compost that has gone on to hundreds of farms, orchards and vineyards. so in that way you can manage your food scraps and produce far less methane. that is part of the solution. that gives people hope that we're doing something to slow down climate change. >> i have been into organic farming my whole life. when we started planting trees, it was natural to have compost from re-ecology. compost is how i work

with san francisco unified are about a week away from the end of the school year. between now and june 1st they've been informed by the san francisco police department they'll have an increased police presence around schools. they are not aware of any threats or connections to events in texas, and this is in an abundance of caution. last night the district's board of education meeting began with a moment of reflection to honor the lives lost and understandably the board says parents have reached out asking about the safety of their own kids' schools in the district. >> we've received many calls and i want you to know we take safety plans and precautions extremely seriously here in the san francisco unified school district. we have a comprehensive crisis plan in the event of any emergency. >> reporter: they add they have visitor check-in procedures and surveillance cameras. in other parts of the bay, contra costa county sheriff tweeted although there are no known threats in their jurisdiction he ordered additional patrols around all of the schools. mountain view pol

san francisco is not alone in the program. k-c is across the country with over 100 active college savings accounts today reaches 1.2 million kids in 39 states in this country. in 2019 california created california kids a statewide program for every child born in california. governor newsom expanded in 21-22 budget with investment of nearly $2 billion.
