boston e.m.s. says the boy, who is about four years old, was walking along blue hill avenue just after the 3:00. he was taken to boston medical center center to be checked out. top stories. a chelmsford boy is okay after a hoverboard caught fire inside his family's home. the teen was on board when it began sparking last night. while he was not hurt, the fire did do some damage to the home. firefighters used an extinguisher to put out those flames. because of the smoke in the house, the family stayed somewhere else last night. a cambridge police officer is on administrative leave after police say he hit a young woman with his truck and then kept on going. police say she was riding her bike near broadway and portland street in cambridge. the officer was off duty at the time. the woman was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. >> christa: new this morning a movie studio reportedly staining the shoot-out with the marathon bombers. residents in watertown are now being asked permissio

into the city of boston. a little rain. scattered downpours trickling down almost right down there through 28 or down through the vfw coming in close to west roxbury back into dedham. then you're taking a look at route 1 in norwood all the way back down 1a close to wrentham. then a couple downpours down through far southeastern mass south of 44, just south of taunton. these are lifting off to the north. a far cry from severe weather that we had a few hours ago. you see the back edge of the dry weather essentially on 495. so we're drying out west to east here over the next hour or so. many towns not dealing with a lot of rain for the morning commute. however, we're dealing with a lot of tree branches and debris on some of the side streets as we had a lot of wind reports and all of these dots just clustered around on top of each other. that's where we had reports coming in of some downed tree limbs and tree branches and trees and some power lines issues thanks to the heavy, gusty winds that we saw overnight. al

forget 59 degrees in the city of boston. it will be good enough to tie the record high for this time of year. early shower at the coastline tomorrow, otherwise mostly cloudy skies. mild day. temperatures once again enter the 50s. so we have this front along the east coast today. it's quiet back through the midwest, but the issue as we go into thursday night and into friday is this front does not move all that far. it kind of gets hung up right along the coastline. and as a wave of low pressure passes along that front and up the east coast, we may renew the chance of some showers overnight thursday and as cold air starts to work on in, it could change wet snow friday morning an down through southeastern mass, the cape and the islands. i think any accumulation would be on the minor side as of now, but something to keep an eye on through friday morning. the pattern has been mild. we change it up next week big time. colder air working through the midwest, and we'll get right on that edge of the colder air. when you're right on t

i think it looked like that in boston. training for boston marathon last year. its tough to find some space to run last winter across the area. 55 in boston right now. 55 in plymouth. 55 in norwood. wind along the west. transitioning to west-northwest to north and west of boston. out through metro west and up into southern new hampshire. that's where the front is crossing. spotty light showers and sprinkles but for the most part we will catch a break here and the precipitation across much of eastern mass. breaks in the overcast. temperature steady. may fall a couple of degree. we'll call it peeks of sun into the afternoon. with temperature running close we're saying 50-degree weather. how will we get stouz. great lakes. england. at the same time there's another storm system along the front that get stuck to the east of us working up the east coast. that's going to provide the moisture. initially temperature too warm to support that snow. once we break into precipitation it is rain on the on set but 3:00, 4:00, 5:00 in the morning. we transition back over to snow

rain in boston, rain in plymouth. rain worcester and then between 2:00 and 4:00 am that is when it'll change over to snow. a heavy wet snow and the rain snow line on the city at this time. 7:00 tomorrow morning it's snowing in boston, providence as well as much of southeast mass. the snow line pinned down and it's going to fight the warm air. even down there the cold air does win out and for metro boston the snow temperatures then winds down. how much snow is on the way? that is a shift since yesterday, 5-7 in downtown boston. this will be a heavy wet snow. worsester hills much the same. north much town up to the mere knack valley, as well as route 2 corridor up to about 5-6 inches of snow. because of the warmer setup the westward track lighter amounts of snow but heavy snow. out on the cape and the islands, 1-2 inches of snow. by early tomorrow morning. >> reporter: state from spring back into winter, what does the ground how long know? we've seen snow but the timing has been better with snow arriving during the week

plume of heavy rain now east of the city in boston. still some steady rain to contend with for the next 45 minutes to an hour. it does break up a little bit there and that's the leading edge of the dry air. that eventually does work into the city about 7:00. this is a squall line and this is capable of generating winds gusting over 50 miles per hour. also some very heavy rainfall. it's the storm system really that's trying to behave more like a spring storm than a winter storm. here. we're on the cold side of that storm last night with the cold, the sleet and freezing rain. and then for several hours today, really much ado about nothing. kind of a whiplash here with the heavy rain and wind. back towards western new england it does quickly dry out with skies beginning to clear back toward new york as well as new jersey, metro new york city. that works up into new england later on tonight. right now the wind is also the concern again with the winds gusting between 40 and 45 miles per hour. we do have a high wind warning in effect. until

the city of boston has gone ahead and closed schools for tomorrow in boston. probably a great idea because travel will be poor to say the least tomorrow morning across much of southern new england. lighter apples of snow down through -- amounts of snow but lighter meaning that the numbers aren't as high but it's a heavy wet snow. shovel, plow and travel on. also the concern of minor power disruptions because winds will be out of the northwest between 10-20 tomorrow. the northwest wind was blowing offshore so there is no concern of coastal flooding, that is the storm system we deal with tomorrow and for the weekend a mix of clouds and sunshine saturday and sunday. with this cold front trying to come into new england. there are signs that perhaps we deal with senator storm early next week but the thing about tomorrow is it's the toughest from about 5:00 am to 2:00 pm tomorrow and things wind down tomorrow afternoon. in terms of travel plans as of now i would keep them. i would allow extra time for travel but if you have date night set up keep the plans because t

from worcester into the city of boston. worcester first. then toward boston. then eventually, down through the south shore by about 7:00 in the morning. the cape and the islands, probably between about 8:00 and 10:00 in the morning. look what happens here. right smack-dab in the middle of the morning commute. steady snow if not at times, heavy snow. once that snow does transition from that rain, it will snow hard enough where the roads become slick. fairly quick here across much of eastern massachusetts. that will continue to be the case through noontime. then from noontime in worcester to 2:00 in the starts to end from west to east. perhaps a little bit longer down through the cape and the islands. how much snow to expect in well, the track with this storm has been a little bit farther off to the west. we have had to bring more moisture weather. i do expect that three to six inches of snow will be widespread across eastern massachusetts. now, you get into southeastern massachusetts, beginning as early as getting into fox pro here, attleboro, over to brockton,
