the "boston herald" is reporting that school officials want to safeguard students and the greater boston community. last month that a boston man was diagnosed with zika virus after travelling to a foreign country. also in texas the u.s. centers for disease control said that a person contracted zika through sexual contact. this is first known case being u.s. in the patient had sex with someone who recently returned from venezuela. >>> federal officials and officials from michigan testifying to congress about the lead contaminated water in flynt. thousands of people in the city were poisoned with led after the government switch the source of water in 2014 to save money. the new water was not properly treated causing lead from the pipe to get into the drinking water. michigan governor rick snyder is expected to propose the state to pay 30 million to residents of flynt to pay their water bills. the money would cover the estimated utility bill used for daily water use. >>> just ahead on "today in new england" a blast ripping a huge hole in the side of an airplane while it's thousands of feet

i think it looked like that in boston. training for boston marathon last year. its tough to find some space to run last winter across the area. 55 in boston right now. 55 in plymouth. 55 in norwood. wind along the west. transitioning to west-northwest to north and west of boston. out through metro west and up into southern new hampshire. that's where the front is crossing. spotty light showers and sprinkles but for the most part we will catch a break here and the precipitation across much of eastern mass. breaks in the overcast. temperature steady. may fall a couple of degree. we'll call it peeks of sun into the afternoon. with temperature running close we're saying 50-degree weather. how will we get stouz. great lakes. england. at the same time there's another storm system along the front that get stuck to the east of us working up the east coast. that's going to provide the moisture. initially temperature too warm to support that snow. once we break into precipitation it is rain on the on set but 3:00, 4:00, 5:00 in the morning. we transition back over to snow

boston 35. it is snowing in the city, but again, with these temps in the middle 30s, that snow is having a hard time accumulating the roadways. it is accumulating to windshields and car tops and patio furniture, but that's about it at this time. that will change this morning because those numbers, those temps will start to drop a little bit more, and then the snow will come down in greater intensity, and once that happens, then it starts to stick on the roadways. it's a wet snow, too. a wet snow is much more difficult to drive on and contend with as opposed to a dry snow. snow, and it creates a thin film of water between the tire and road surface, so it's almost like you're on a skating rink. so allow extra time out there this morning. this is the amount of snow on the way, a large area, 5 to 8 inches of snow by the time it winds down mid to late afternoon. and bracketed on either side of that will be about 4 to 5 inches of snow fitchburg, orange, nashua, raymond, further south again 4 to 5 inch

still nothing in boston. if you're leaving in the next half hour to 45 minutes, you're going to be fine. the snow comes into boston about 8:00, 9:00 a.m., there will be a steadier burst of snow from about 9:00, 10:00 a.m. until about 3:00 p.m. then it will shut off to a lighter snow. so this storm is a little different than the last one where i don't think there is this incredible blitz of heavy snow at think time during the storm. perhaps on the south shore or the cape for a few hours with the blizzard warning, but when i show you the snowfall totals, it will take time to get here. this will not be the amount of snow when you leave work today. this will happen by tomorrow morning. so it takes a little time to get there, but the shading of blue indicating about 5 to 9 inches of snow around metro boston. i think i'd plan on 6, maybe 7 in doubt boston along the 495 snow, cape ann upward of 10 to 12 inches of snow, southern new hampshire, the outer route 2 corridor 3, to 5. this would be a light and fluffy and p
