turning now to northern virginia, where some areas are buried beneath almost 3 feet of snow, the virginia national guard has put about 500 troops on active duty to help local emergency crews. news 4's julie carey is live in tyson's corner this morning with more. julie, have you seen any emergency vehicles goingp and down 123 behind you? >> reporter: not only have we not seen any emergency vehicles, we haven't seen many vehicles at all. i said at one point yesterday, i said, take a goo look, you'll never see the tyson's corner area this desolate, well, that is until today. because yesterday we had a parade of plow trucks running up and down the road. they're pretty muc finisheded now and very few people out. it has been really quiet here this morning. as you can see, chain bridge road behind me, in nice shape, two lanes open, even some of the turn lanes plowed off. mountains of snow by the side of the road that attest to that. you're probably seeing some videotape now of the activity going on this morning. the plows worked hard overnight and then the front-end loaders came in this morning

virginia beach is seeing pockets of heavy rain right now. the storm is forecast to move over the atlantic and look at it could restrengthen into hurricane status by tuesday morning with winds up near 75 miles per hour. we have a dip in the jet stream. that will lock this storm in place and keep it out over the water. all of this water is going to get pushed onshore. that is why there is a threat for coastal flooding because of the storm surge. we are looking at the storm close enough to produce gusty winds from ocean city, maryland to ocean city, new jersey and in nantucket with winds gusting up continue through labor day and through tuesday across long island. again with the water pushing onshore, we could have storm surge up to 2 to 4 feet. you add 2 to 4 feet on top of the astronomical high tide. as for rain, most of the heavy rain will continue near virginia and north carolina. as we go into the rest of the holiday weekend, we are not york city. maybe 1/2 inch. it is the wind and coastal flooding that is the concern. >>> thank you. turni
