virginia, oklahoma and arkansas are the three states he's spending the most time in. and by the way he would be helped if trump beat ted cruz in texas, which would effectively knock cruz out of the race. that's a strategy there. then, in a one-on-one on march 15th rubio hopes to beat trump in ohio and florida, and then after that look at what the delegate total would be under that scenario. rubio would actually have a slight lead at this point and long march to cleveland, because by the way it would be impossible for anybody to get a majority of the delegates by july to pull that out. so let's now move to cruz. cruz, he's got a pretty straightforward path to relevance here. number one he's got to win texas, and he's hoping to win the two states that border texas on super tuesday, oklahoma and arkansas. cruz really wants to be able to say that he won iowa, texas and something else, what is that something else? and of course he needs to be second. then he also would like to eliminate rubio before florida and then cruz become the alternative and cruz be the guy that ever

states of emergency are in effect in virginia, and north carolina right now. among the places that took devastating blows of a violent and deadly storm that rampaged from the south up the eastern seaboard. today we're seeing the full extent of the damage from some 50 reported tornadoes over the last two days. nine people were and millions were impacted from downed trees and power outages, to floods and canceled flights. tonight the region is still trying to recover. nbc's miguel almaguer reports. >> reporter: tonight this is what the damage looked like in seven states. homes have been shredded, lives are in shambles, after more than 50 reported tornadoes. >> i went to see where the house was, it wasn't there. >> reporter: in waverly, virginia, there's as much heart break as destruction. in the f-1 tornado with winds up to 110 miles an hour, carving a path nine miles yard and 300 yards wide. this foundation, all bull's-eye. the bodies of two adults and a toddler discovered 300 yards away from the living room where they were storm. >> it could be your loved one.

parts through virginia ... they left a path of destruction in their wake. according to the latest numbers... four people died as a result of the severe weather... and at least two dozen were hurt... several critically. 100 buildings in appomattox county are now damaged... including 20 homes which have been completely destroyed. and about 40- percent of the county is without power. virginia's national guard has also mobilized. more than 40 soldiers are on state active duty... as part of a multi-agency effort to help the areas... including patrick county... that were hit by an e-f one tornado. so far... the guard is focusing on debris removal efforts... like clearing blocked roads. an aerial team is also on stand-by to help with damage assessment. the town of waverly in sussex three of the storm's four deaths come from the small town. we turn now to kerri o-brien... who talks to residents about the loss. a trail of debris and devastion... pieces of metal, wood and insulation all scattered about in this area not far from where three people were killed. today i

with it and if you look out on the radar you can see that we do have a couple of showers near west virginia and in parts of the new river valley and a little bit of rain over by giles and craig and the highest elevation of grayson county right now is a light mix. this big picture shows a line of severe weather extending from philadelphia to pennsylvania and south carolina. the line certainly capable of producing tornadoes and will eventually push offshore over there are many reports of trees down and damaging wind and i do think that frankly i would be shocked if we did not find out tomorrow about a tornado touchdown in appomattox county. it looks like that was caused by a tornado and the video that we saw certainly looks like or tornado touchdown in appomattox county as well. even more east. we turn out i intend to the wind -- turn our attention to the wind and we could have wind gusts over 40 mph and over 30 mph across lynchburg. overall it looks like the winds will increase tonight on top of what they already are and a saturated ground we could have more trees topple over tonight and int
