the recent snow storm knocked out power all over southwest virginia. one of the areas impacted is danville. power crews have been working all day to restore power to everyone in the just about finished. wsls 10's colter anstaett has an as you can see behind me, crews are still on kennon drive, as they have been all day, working to repair multiple power poles and multiple power lines. as you can see this is our sky cam in blacksburg on virginia tech's campus. the scene is meanwhie wsls ten's duke carter is live in christiansburg. duke --- what are v-dot crews doing differently for this storm compared to other snow events? mother nature is bringing very cold temperatures to our area. it's currently snowing/not snowing ------ here in christiansburg. because it's so cold that snow can stick on the ground v-dot crews say salt won't be as effecitve to melt ice on the roads.... compound to help keep the roads as safe as they can... in this case --- preventing ice to accumulate which can cause hazardous conditions. we spoke with v- dot crews earlier this afternoon and they say are pre wetting the salt with "liquid calcium choloride." they say that will help melt the ice --- especially when its cold out and there's no moisture in the air. we're expecting road conditions to change very rapidly once the storm starts, the pavement and the ground temperatures are just so cold that any percipitation we are going to see will stick and make roads very sl

legislation is moving through the virginia statehouse that could do just that. wsls 10's ananda rochita is live in the studio. ananda -- i understand there are some questions about confidentiality when it comes to this bill ... that's exactly what twila brown .... the director of special education for rockbridge county public schools brought up. according to the bill ... recordings are confidential and only released to people involved in investigating a documented incident. cameras would be installed if a parent or school board employee requested them. in addition ... all school personnel and parents would receive a written notice prior to cameras installed and if a parent is against them. however that's not enough for brown. she says the school system has worked hard to include special education students with general education peers. she said if by law cameras had to be in special education classrooms ... she would like them to be in all classrooms. twila brown/special education director: "from my view point it's all or nothing. we put them in all of the classr
