let's talk about this with cnn senior political reporter who is in washington. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell was quick to say he didn't think the president should nominate a replacement for scalia. president obama vowed he will nominate someone quickly. how long could the process drag out? >> quite sometime if you look at histor historical, typically they take 67 days on average. the longest when robert -- nomination was rejected three decades ago. that took 108 days. this is poised to smash that record. we are looking at right now mcconnell saying the president should not nominate anyone. if he sticks to his demand and decides not to allow a confirmation vote on the senate floor and if they deny a confirmation hearing in the senate, judiciary committee it is certainly likely there will be no nominee confirmed this year. that means it will drag on to the next presidency. it could take two or three months in the next administration. we can look for more than year. the question is whether or not political pressure will force republicans to change. >> i'm

money and the stamina and the fact that you have ted cruz who is not liked by the establishment in washington. you have donald trump who if you add them both together you have over 50% of the vote. not liked by them. how much money do you think goes to marco rubio after today? >> well, i think that is the big decision that establishment candidates or the establishment part of the republican party, the centrist part, if you will, however you want to call it, they have to make a decision if they really want to put their power behind somebody like marco rubio. because if not, then, you know, we're sitting here talking about scenarios for ted cruz to go on longer. for marco rubio to go on longer. i talked about how donald trump is leading in every single other poll and every single other state outside of iowa. that is why those kinds of scenarios, if people don't start getting out and getting out fast and consolidating behind one or two candidates other than trump, i still think trump can actually trump everybody else moving forward. >> and when we come back we'll talk about much more in a second

and there's a lot of frustration about the idea that washington is not listening to people and their every dave concerns. donald trump's candidacy for many of these voters has become a vehicle for those frustrations. and he has talked about it, whether it's been about the economy, whether it's been about immigration, whether it's national security. he has not offered real substantive positions, but instead he has offered clarity. he has defined what he thinks is the wrong approach by washington and offered really simple recommend dips. >> a lot of people in the beginning didn't believe he could it it, that he to have more substance, that the people in the republican party misjudged the anger of the people. >> and they really shouldn't have. >> absolutely. >> go ahead, kellyanne. >> they really shouldn't have because the three people who are the front-runners, marco rubio in 2010, ted cruz in 2012 and donald trump in 2015, what do they all have in common? they were the outsiders challenging the establishment. so cruz and trump are still doing that as the outsiders and they have a coal

they want something different to happen in washington, d.c. they are tired of the same old business being led by the same old people. and bernie represents something new. he represents a revolution that's going to adjust how business is being done in washington, d.c. and you can see that revolution taking place even in some of the remarks that hillary clinton is talking about. now she's beginning to talk about those issues that bernie has been talking about everywhere. not only in a black state of south carolina, not in harlem, but bernie sanders has been talking about that in iowa, in new hampshire. so he's been talking about those issues that are relative to the african-american community from the very beginning. >> we'll see if the young voters show up at the polls today. maria, let me come to you. does this expectation that hillary clinton will win by a large margin hurt her potentially, maybe some of the voters who were -- might have been excite philadelphia this were a much tight erase might stay home and this margin will be narrower? >>

it was disappointing to republicans in washington. i spoke to two senior republican official who hoped that new hampshire would almost narrow the republican field and a party would able to quickly coalesce behind an alternative to donald trump and that alternative being marco rubio. we saw a wave of support come his way after iowa. but what the real fear is now in republican circles is this fight for are the establishment lane, the fight to be the donald trump alternative is going to last weeks and weeks and weeks. what did this mean for the bush and rubio campaigns going forward? they don't believe -- neither of them believe that john kasich present as serious threat in south carolina given that the electorate there is much more conservative than john kasich, who ran as a much more moderate candidate. both of them see each other as their biggest threat going forward. expect the race between bush and rubio to get much more intense in the come beiing weeks and wh that does for the fight against donald trump really throws that in disarr
