reaction now and speak to ross lynn jordan in washington, d.c. the u.s. wanted of course an immediate end to the hostilities, a ceasefire immediately, so how satisfied are they with what was agreed in munich? >> well, basically, they were able to achieve what they did not want to give to the russians, which was until the end of february, the beginning of march before a ceasefire could take effect. while the u.s. eye deli would want the hostilities to stop at this moment, at least having a week is much better than letting the russian military carry out airstrikes on behalf of bashar al assad's government and go after opposition fighters for three weeks. so it's not perfect, but it is something that the u.s. can at least live with, according to officials. what's also worth stressing is that the fact that this does seem to be bringing new life to u.n. security council resolution 2254, which allows for human aid, which allows for this ceasefire, too, which does allow for the efforts of the syrian government and the syrian opposition to try to talk about a way

al jazeera, washington. >> al jazeera joins us live now from washington, d.c. hi there, what else did obama said and what is the reaction? >> republicans hate the plan, they say it came in late, and oversteps legal authority. that have already been signed into law. democrats say that this plan is long overdue, and that they are going to do what they can to try to get it enacted. but the democrats are the minority here, so julie it is going to be probably a very tough fight for the obama administration. but the president did say as he was outlining the plan, was that the 46 people who have not been charged with any crimes but are still at guantanamo will get a hearing. to find out if they pose a threat, then if they are deemed not a threat they will then be tran fenced to another country away from guantanamo bay. or give them rehabilitation, that sort of thing. the president also said would be moved to continue the trial in that particular legal system. that is something which is not sitting well particularly with republicans on the hill. and as we heard in the

washington talking to moscow primarily, is it? >> undoubtedly. the past few days there has been consultations between russia and american officials. u.n.-led talks really have been postponed. it was supposed to be a wider meeting. so far it has not taken place. it's the russians and americans, and john kerry made it clear that there's going to be a full conversation between the u.s. and russian president. finalising this, and announcing progress on an attractable issue. there has been numerous attempts. there has been announcements that the ceasefire never affects the ground. the devil is in the detail. is there going to be a monetary mechanism. who will monitor the ceasefire on the ground. the initial proposal excluded two key players, i.s.i.l., and the other linked to the al nusra front. the opposition is saying the fact that al nusra front was included in the proposal makes it difficult to guarantee that the russian strike zones stop. al nusra is on the ground. most operate in areas, the opposition of it, and they cooperate against the governm

well to discuss the situation in egypt, i am joined from washington. he is with the middle east and north africa division of human rights watch, thank you for joining us here on al jazeera. so first of all, what do you make of the deaths in especially considering that he disappeared on january 25th, which is the anniversary of the revolution, and that it since transpired and was also working there as a journalist? >> well, that's the thing, we don't have confirmed information so far, about what happened. what we know is the context is very troubling and raising question, that same day of the revolution, in egypt, and during that same day, more than 5,000 homes and apartments were raided in kairo alone. by the recognition of the police itself. they said that the houses they raided were owned or occupied by people they suspected of various wrongdoings. and only because they were related one way or another to the january 5 revolution. so there is a mas.sive crack down it might have been linked to this. >> of course as you say there's a lot we don't know a
